Theodore Huey,

Theodore Edward Huey, Sr. was a man of integrity known in the South as, "Jason". He was born August 16, 1934 in Waxhaw, North Carolina. He was the only child born to the late Leola Wilson-Simpkins and Coyse E. Huey. He is preceded in death by his wife Gertrude, his daughter Christina, (Tina) Huff, son Theodore E. Huey, Jr., (Pooh Bear), and granddaughter Meesha ,(Mimi) Saxton. Theodore grew up in the church. His Christian experience began in the home with his mother, who was very active in the house of the Lord. He was baptized as a teenager in Charlotte, North Carolina at Cosmopolitan Community Church. Theodore, (Teddy), was educated in the Waxhaw public school system. He joined the Armed Forces in 1953 and served his country proudly. He served as Private E-2 in Korea and Guam. He received several medals including a National Defense Service medal and Good Conduct Medal. Teddy moved to Cleveland, Ohio and worked in a factory and later became a Taxi Cab Driver. He was also a delivery driver for Bonnie Speed. He worked for the city of Cleveland, Streets Division, and retired in 1998 after thirty one years of dedicated service. While in retirement he helped his daughter maintain the family business, Mimi's Hair Heaven and Spa until its closing in 2008. Teddy and Gertrude met in 1965. Teddy fell in love with Gertrude's hazel brown eyes. He stated that she had the most beautiful eyes that he had ever seen. They were united in holy matrimony on November 22, 1966 in a double wedding ceremony along with Gert's sister Valerie. To this union three wonderful children were born: Teresa Lee, Theodore Edward, Jr. and Terrill Ezell. Prior to their union Gertrude had a son, Oliver Ford, and Teddy had a daughter, Christina Huff. On November 22, 1991, their children gave them a 25th wedding anniversary celebration. They were married for thirty nine years until Gertrude passed away in 2005. Teddy lived a full and gratifying life. He exemplified a generous and peaceable spirit. He sang quartet with the Songs of Joy and also sang with the Holiness Singing Union Choir. He was a member of the American Legion 315. Teddy enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, cooking, and fixing things. His children called him "handy Andy". He enjoyed life and everyone in it. On Tuesday, October 18, 2011, Teddy departed this life, at Cleveland Clinic, and transitioned from labor to reward. Teddy will fondly be remembered as the beloved husband of the late Gertrude Huey. He leaves to cherish his memory; special friend, May L. Gaston, his loving daughter Teresa Saxton-McCurry, (Gregory), sons Terrill Huey,(Jade), Oliver Ford,(Daryl), grandchildren, Charrone Huff, Chanesha Huff, David Huff, Lydia Allen and Terrill Huey, Jr., 11 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, aunts, Duie Wilson, Mary Ruth Wilson, Annie Laura Wilson, Winifred Mason, (Arthur), Shirley West, Ann Davis, uncle, Otis Davis, cousin, Betty Massie of Waxhaw, N.C. was like a sister, and a host of other relatives and friends.
