Ruby Arnold Obituary The Ruby Jewel Arnold Story Ruby Jewel Arnold, “Aunt Jewel”, was born on March 20, 1925 in Turin, Georgia to the late Alfred G. and Bertha M. Arnold. The 1st of four children, to include, Dorothy Williams, Alfred Arnold Jr, and Helen Crayton, all who preceded her in death. Ruby accepted Jesus Christ as her personal saviour at an early age, and was baptized at the China Grove Baptist Church in Turin. It was in Georgia where she obtained her formal education. In the early 1940’s Ruby relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. Ruby also resided in Detroit, Michigan for a short period of time living with her Uncle Bloss Arnold and his wife Roberta. Upon returning to Cleveland, she joined the Open Door Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. A.P.Hines. Ruby worked on the Usher Board, and served on many committees in the church. Ruby was a faithful member to Open Door until her health began to decline. Ruby started her employment as a housekeeper for a few select families in the Cleveland Heights area. She also worked for Union Carbide on the westside of Cleveland. Ruby stopped working to care for her mother during the last years of her life. After Big Momma passed, Ruby went back to work as a dietary assistant at St. Alexis Hospital on Broadway Avenue. After giv- ing over 20 years of service to the hospital, Ruby retired in the mid 1980’s. Ruby never birthed children of her own, but her nieces and nephews filled the gap. Ruby’s signature gesture of love was to buy our first pair of school shoes. She referred to us as “Bad Eggs”, which at the time we didn’t under- stand, but as we grew older, we figured it out. If she called us by our full government name, we knew trouble was to follow. On Sunday evening June 2nd, God’s angel entered the Life Care Center of Medina Nursing Facility, entered into her room, then whispered into her ear, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Rest from your labor”. The angel closed her eyes, and her spirit departed this dimension en route to her Heavenly home. Ruby leaves to cherish her memories, The Bad Eggs, Loretta Williams, Gerald Crayton, Grover C. Crayton II, Brian Arnold, Marc Crayton, and Nicole Arnold. All of Ruby’s first cousins are like brothers and sisters to her, and they will miss her. Her Open Door Church family, who until the end, made sure she knew they never forgot about her.
