Royal Young Obituary Beloved husband, father, and friend, Royal Young, flew away to be with the Lord on September 27, 2023, at the age of 74. Born on July 15th, 1949, in Russellville, Alabama, Royal was the cherished firstborn of George and Estelle (Hollingsworth) Young. A few years later, George "Tulu" Jr. and Linda joined Royal to complete the Young household. He is now reunited in eternal peace with his parents, his brother George "Tulu" Young, his infant son Roy Jr., and niece and nephew, Chris Young and Lisa Young. Royal's journey through life was marked by resilience, determination, and commitment to his family and community. He attended Russellville High School, where he left an indelible mark as one of the first black students to integrate in 1966 and the first black football player. In 1967, he proudly graduated from high school and went on to attend Alabama A&M for three years. Initially studying to become a male nurse at Helen Keller Hospital, Royal's path eventually led him to explore truck driving and management at All American Products in Muscle Shoals, where he worked alongside his sister, Linda. In the early 1970s, Royal began his nearly four-decade-long career at Ford Motor Company. During his tenure, he displayed his unwavering dedication by completing an apprentice program, ultimately becoming an electrician. Alongside his work at Ford, he ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing his own company with his steadfast partner, Gaye N. (Gayle), who also served as his secretary. Royal and Gayle were wed in 1996, sealing their love in a union that brought joy to their lives. Royal's career took him from his local Ford plant in Alabama to the Lorain, Ohio Ford plant in the early 1980s, where he continued to contribute his expertise and commitment to the company. His involvement extended beyond his role as an electrician, as he actively participated in the local United Auto Workers (UAW) union, advocating for the rights of his fellow workers. His passion for justice also led him to become an active member of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists and the NAACP, where he championed the cause of civil rights. Outside of his professional life, Royal was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a dedicated golfer. His love for the sport was unmatched, and he shared his enthusiasm with family and friends, often spending lunch breaks at the driving range. He ensured his loved ones could hold their own on the golf course. Royal leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service that will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gaye N. (Gayle), his children: Terry Young, April (Donzell) Dawson, and T'Cara Darby, and two stepsons: Calvin Bailey and Kelvin Bailey. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda (Otis) Suggs, Molly Young, cherished grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, as well as a wide circle of family and friends who will forever treasure the memories they created together.
