Mildred Adams Obituary Mildred Geraldine Robertson Adams, affectionately known as Gerrie. Gerrie was born October 16, 1930, in McCormick County, South Carolina to the union of Winchester and Daisy Lee Robertson. She was the second child of thirteen siblings. Her father, Winchester, not only instilled faith in them but also strongly encouraged his children to get an education. Gerrie’s educational journey began in the Braddock, PA school system from where she advanced to Sewickley High School in Herminie. PA. Being baptized in the Name of Jesus and filled with the precious Holy Ghost enabled her to surmount a multitude of life’s challenges. Gerrie was united in matrimony to Robert Adams in 1951. They were blessed to have four sons: Carlton, Leonard, Richard, and Mark; the latter three preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert. While Gerrie served in various churches, much of her ministry and church work was under the leadership of Bishop Fitzpatrick where she served as a dedicated and faithful servant at Calvary Apostolic Assembly. Some of her activities included community missionary work (along with her growing sons), Mother’s Board appointment, and warfare prayer. Her love for the Lord was evidenced through her singing, praising, and obeying the Word. Gerrie was graced with many talents, gifts, and straightforward language that she generously and humorously used against the devil or “creeping things”. Although life dealt her many blows, she would tell the devil, “You won’t win,” despite how he assailed. Also, once an aggressive, stray cat tried to make an unwanted move on her porch, and she told it, “I will break your neck in the Name of Jesus.” Needless to say, the cat did not win and left the premises. Driven by purpose, passion, and God-given fortitude, Gerrie pursued higher education at Cuyahoga Community College in Ohio, where she earned her certification as a nurse assistant. The course work provided a gateway for her to provide quality nursing care to patients in the healthcare community, where she served with excellence. Excellence could also be tasted through her culinary skills. Gerrie, the super cook, loved cooking and said that at age eight she could make a cake like an adult. Not only her children but also her grandchildren and their offsprings savored her special dishes and hospitality. One of the grandchildren, Latrice (Tiny) hung around Grandma Grapes and Plumbs--another name for Gerrie--so much and helped with her affairs. Gerrie said she was more like a daughter than granddaughter. Gerrie appreciated all her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren and the numerous multigenerational nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends. Gerrie is survived by and leaves to celebrate her life: her son, Carlton Lewis Adams, three sisters, Evangelist Martina Holt of Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. Grace Butler of Lorain, Ohio; Dr. Joyce Robertson of Atlanta (Lawrenceville) Georgia; one brother, Mr. Melvin Robertson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and the numerous unnumbered multigenerational offsprings.
