Maxine Coburn Obituary Maxine Coburn was born February 4, 1951 to George and Mable Coburn. Maxine is preceded in death by both of her parents, four brothers - George, Jr, Rev. Eddie Coburn, Floyd Coburn, and William Coburn, five sisters- Lillian Boxiley, Ella Coburn, Willie Ann Mull, Nellie Mae Prewitt, and Joyce Webber-Nelson. Maxine attended Fayette County High School in Somerville, TN. She then moved to Cleveland, OH in 1969 to join 4 of her siblings. It was in Cleveland that Maxine became mother to her two loving sons Kevin Lamont and Kendrige LaDon. Raising her boys was her greatest joy! Max earned the title “Mad Max” because she did not play with holding her sons and all their friends accountable. No one wanted to feel her wrath, but her discipline was balanced with both love and life lessons. She learned from her eldest brother that she needed to raise them with strong boundaries so they could become great men. Maxine gained many friends over the years from many circles of her life - school, work, dialysis, and casino. A sacred relationship with one of her best friends, Deborah Boles, led to Maxine gaining 2 Godsons - Hashim Ali and Christopher Boles. Maxine’s work ethic was like no other. She held several jobs over the years - Black Panther Party, Super Valu, Hayden’s Bi-Rite, and Heinen’s. In 2003, Max medically retired from Heinen’s after many years of service. While growing up, Max attended church many times a week with her mother and siblings at Wright’s Chapel in Collierville, TN. After relocating to Cleveland, she did not choose to join a church, but would attend her eldest brother’s church at times. Nonetheless, Maxine believed that Jesus Christ was her Lord and Savior. Maxine loved spending time with her family, and she also loved music. Some of her favorite artists were Roger Troutman, Marvin Gaye, The O’Jays, and Eddie Kendricks (inspiration behind Ken’s name). She also loved to dance, especially line dancing. Aside from her sons, and sometimes in front of them, her granddaughters were her absolute pride and joy! She shared every detail of “grandma’s babies” to any and everyone she spoke to. She and Evelyn Bonner (her Co-Grandma) would take turns trying to “make each other jealous” about the time they were spending with their granddaughters, Kaira and Kenya. For the past 21 years, Max attended dialysis three times per week. It was there that she met and made life-long friendships. On dialysis days, she would make her way to the nearby Jack’s casino, where she garnered even more friends. Maxine leaves to cherish many memories, her two loyal and devoted sons: Kevin (Karla) Coburn of Phoenix, AZ and Kendrige Coburn of Atlanta, GA. Two Godsons: Hashim Ali and Christopher Boles of Cleveland, OH. Four Granddaughters: Kaira Coburn, Kenya Coburn, Camia Coburn, and Majesty Ali.
