Mary Mann Obituary The Celebration of Life and Legacy of Mary Elizabeth Friend (Mann) was born July 29, 1929, to Early and Hattie Friend in the State of Virginia. Her residence was in Richmond, Virginia until she moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Mary came to Cleveland, Ohio in July 1965, celebrating her 36th year birthday by visiting her sister, Frances Allen. She decided to make her residence in Cleveland and moved there along with her 3 children. Mary, a jovial, energetic, creative seamstress, baker, as well as a multi-tasker, had a vision of all she desired not only for herself but mainly for her family. As a wife and mother, she confronted all her challenges, by the grace of God, and she persevered to accomplish her goals. She attended Cuyahoga Community College (CCC) while working at the Cleveland Engineering Society as a Banquet Coordinator. After attending CCC and the Dental Academy School of Cleveland from 1968 to 1972, part-time in hopes of becoming a Dental Assistant. Mary obtained a position of Nursing Assistant/Surgical Instrument Coordinator at the Lakewood Hospital in Lakewood, Ohio from 1979 to 2004, upon retirement, 25 years of service. Mary and her husband, Thomas became world travelers, traveling to Canada and several overseas wonders of the world, Mexico and the Bahamas, on many occasions! As boat owners and avid fisherman, they enthusiastically enjoyed fishing on Great Lakes (Erie, Sandusky) and in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, while ever extending the invitation for family and friends to join them on their many fun-loving excursions. Mary's creative abilities are forever emulated as you enter their home. We had the pleasure of seeing the results of them being passionate crafters, due to their extensive schedule of crafts shows, county fairs, flea markets and they traveled, covering miles upon miles of American territory, embarking upon some of the most beautiful places in our nation from the State of Washington, across the country down to our southern borders of Tennessee, Alabama and Florida. She has been a member of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church since 1975 where she joined under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Odie M. Hoover, and continued her services under Rev. Dr. Otis Moss, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Jawanza Karriem Colvin. Her God-given gifts of singing led her to join the Olivet Institutional Mass Choir, the Missionary Guild and she has graciously volunteered for any tasks presented for her involvement. Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Thomas Mann: three children; Fennon Henderson Jr. (Rita), Patricia Henderson – Elam and James Henderson: five grandchildren; Tomeka Walker (Virgil), Fennon Henderson lll, Spring Cambric, Tomesha Walker (Darnell), Devonte' Henderson and Andre' Henderson: seven great-grandchildren; siblings, William T. Powell, Florence Priestly (Nathan), Frances Allen, and a host of nephews and nieces.
