Mary A. Chancellor

Mary Chancellor Obituary Mary Ann Chancellor was born July 18,1941 in Corinth Mississippi to the late Julius Edward and Katherine Ratliff. She was the third of nine children, two sisters Julia Ann Lewis & Shelia Ratliff and three brothers Joe Louis Ratliff, Eddie Ratliff and Calvin Eugene Ratliff preceded her in death. In 1943 Mary ‘s parents moved the family to Humboldt Tennessee. Mary attended the Humboldt Tennessee school system and later moved to Cleveland Ohio, where she graduated from John Hay high school. Mary accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the age 10 and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church in Humboldt, TN where she was a member of the Red Circle Girls and sang in the choir. After moving to Cleveland, she joined Second Mt. Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of pastor BG Gilbert where she was a member of the courtesy committee. She met and married the late Othell Chancellor. To this union two children were born: Antionette and Antoine Chancellor. She began her career as a home health aid and obtained her STNA license where she was employed at University Hospital. She retired from the records department at University Hospital after 30 years of service. She used her knowledge in the health care field to comfort family and friends. She was a loving and caring person and touched the lives of many friends and neighbors; and will be missed by all who knew her. Although Mary had been battling her illness for years, she loved celebrating her birthday and enjoyed making her family and friends laugh with her pranks. As her health began to fail, she asked her family to let her go so she could be at rest with the Lord. Mary departed this life on May 9, 2024, at The Avenue nursing home with family at her bedside. Mary leaves to cherish her loving memories: two children: daughter Antionette Wheeler and son Antoine Chancellor; five grandchildren; Kenneth, Brandon, Howard, Justin & (Jason who preceded her in death); great-grandchildren; three sister; Alberta Howse, Diane (Melvin) Barker, Barbara Wynn and a host of nephews, nieces cousins and friends.
