Lamond Reed Obituary Lamond Reed passed away on August 1, 2022 at University Hospital Geauga Medical Center in Chardon, Ohio. He was born on January 13, 1950 to Mary Jo and Willie Alfred Reed in Preston, Mississippi. Lamond accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Preston. He loved Sunday school and on preaching Sundays (once a month), he engaged in pretend preaching while his siblings made for the congregation. His sister, Gloria, played the piano and sang for the make-believe services. The family moved to Cleveland in 1963 and Lamond enrolled in Harry E. Davis Jr. High School. He graduated from East High School in 1968. He was a brilliant student who was especially gifted in math. After graduating from high school, he worked at various companies including Barth Industries in Cleveland, Ohio. His trade was that of an engine lathe operator. To qualify for this job, one needed to be highly skilled in math. Being an engine lathe operator entailed producing cylindrical parts to meet certain specifications. He boasted about his ability to make precision tools long before modern technology was in fashion and was quick to credit his expertise to his math teachers. One day after work, he drove down Rozelle Avenue in East Cleveland where he saw an attractive young lady wearing short shorts. He honked his horn, pulled over, told her how fine she was, and asked for her name and phone number. Her name was Linda Florence. Soon they became an “item.” Lamond and Linda fell in love and were married in 1972. To this union, one daughter, Heather Marie was born. Lamond loved Heather with a passion and was a wonderful provider for her. The two of them had a bond like none other. If she asked, he would try to pull the moon right out of the sky for her. Aside from the love for his toolbox filled with precision tools, he enjoyed fast cars, music in new wave, soul, pop, R & B, and hip-hop genres. Prince and Rick James were among his favorite artists. He often paid his niece, Dee, to sing “I’m in Love with Mary Jane” when she had no idea what the lyrics meant. He preferred a steady diet of chicken, ribs, and Coca Cola. He took pride in wearing expensive clothing and jewelry. He, also, had a passion for writing poetry. He wrote constantly and gave away poetry until he began to lose his vision. Lamond had a heart of gold. He regularly took Heather, his nieces, nephews, and young cousins to Bob Evans, his favorite restaurant. He frequently took his nieces, Vicki, and Dee, for joy rides. They kept the secret that he drove too fast until they were grown. He adored his grandchildren, Justin, and Jada, and did his best to make sure that they wanted for nothing. He loved to see others happy and would often deny himself for friends and family. Until shortly before his death, he was still asking if family members needed anything. He was predeceased by his father, Willie Alfred Reed, Sr., his mother, Mary Jo Neely Reed, and his brother, Willie Alfred Reed, Jr. He is survived by his former wife, Linda Florence Reed of Maple Heights, Ohio, his daughter, Heather Marie Reed Tucker (George) of Bedford Heights, Ohio, a grandson, Justin Tyree Bolden of Portland, Oregon, a granddaughter, Jada Marie Tucker of Bedford Heights, a sister, Katherine Reed Patterson (Robert) of Muskegon, MI, a sister, Dr. Gloria Brown of Streetsboro, OH, a brother, James Reed (Sharron) of Richmond Heights, Ohio, a sister, Cotina Reed Odom of Meridian, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
