James Manning Obituary On Sunday, March 9th 2025 early evening, God whispered “Peace Be Still” and James Clyde Manning quietly slipped away to rest. James was born October 31, 1947 in Eutaw, Alabama to the late Clyde James and Fannie (Madea) Ethel Manning. He accepted Christ at an early age, joining Calvary Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio and later joined Open Door Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio where he served as a Deacon and sang in the Male Chorus. James attended Cleveland Public School System, graduating from East High School. While attending East High School he worked part-time as a mail clerk at Ryerson Steel Company. Upon graduating, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War. James received an honorable discharge and he returned to Cleveland and went to work at his former employer Ryerson Steel Company. He worked for Ryerson Steel Company for over twenty years and became one of Ryerson’s top Salesmen and he earned numerous awards for outstanding salesmanship. During his time at Ryerson Steel Company he also attended Cuyahoga Community College where he earned an Associate of Marketing degree.. He later worked at JC Penny and DIllards part-time and continued to provide excellent customer service. James was a man of very few words but “sales” was his gift from God. His smile and humble spirit was shown to family, friends and everyone he met. On June 7, 1969 James was united in holy matrimony to Sylvia Jean Barkley. To this union two children were born, Michelle Ann and Marc Dwayne. Prior to James' illness, he enjoyed helping his mother-in-law with gardening and traveling with his wife and family. He also loved sports, he played basketball, golf and was in a bowling league. He loved to support the Cleveland teams by wearing his Browns and Guardians outfits. He also enjoyed listening to music, his favorites were jazz and gospel. Those left to cherish the beautiful memories of his life are his loving wife of fifty-five years Sylvia Jean, daughter Michelle Ann, son Marc Dwayne, one brother Ira Lee Manning and one sister Linda Manning (Billy). He has six grandchildren, Marc Dwayne Jr, James Burge III ,Andrae Terrell, Marshelle Monique, Addison Elizabeth and Ariah Michelle, two great grandchildren Amoura and Cataleya, two brother in laws Frederick Barkley and Aubrey Dulaney, two sister in laws Patricia Dulaney and Patrica Levy, Aunt Idella Thompson of Eutaw, Alabama and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins , relatives and friends.
