Isaac Hamilton, Sr. Obituary Isaac Edmond Hamilton, Sr., fondly known as “Ike”, was born on November 14, 1933, in Huntsville, Alabama. He was the only child of Ernest F. Hamilton and Sarah (Edmond) Hamilton. After graduation from Council Training School in Normal, Alabama, Isaac attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, as well as a Master of Arts Degree in Biological Sciences. While living in Indiana, he met the love of his life, Jacquelyn Whiteside. They married on March 30, 1954. The Hamilton’s, including their newborn son Isaac Jr., moved to Cleveland, Ohio in the summer of 1955. The next 32 years of Isaac’s life were successful and rewarding. He earned a second Master of Arts Degree (Administration and Supervision) from Case Western Reserve University, worked at the United States Postal Office, worked as a supervisor at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center and instructed anatomy and physiology classes at Cuyahoga Community College. In addition, he taught science and health for Cleveland Public Schools and eventually became Supervisor of Cleveland Public Schools’ Office of Health Education, Family Life Education, Safety Education and Driver’s Education. During this time, the Hamilton family grew with the addition of daughter, Jocelyn, and twin sons, Keith and Kevin. After a satisfying 30-year career with the Cleveland Board of Education, Isaac retired in 1987 to begin a new chapter in his life. His dedication to improving the lives of people, especially youth, led him to the creation and promotion of several projects. He established a company, I.E. Hamilton and Associates, for the purpose of designing and offering educational programs for school-aged youth. He served on many committees throughout his work with the American Red Cross (Cleveland, Ohio). Isaac was most proud of being one of 12 delegates selected and invited by the National Red Cross to visit ravaged countries in West Africa. The delegates were responsible for reporting the overall condition of the people affected by the famine crisis in the countries visited and determining whether the food and medical supplies purchased with American dollars were going directly to the children, pregnant mothers, and elderly for which they were intended. In 1998, Isaac joined the staff of Cleveland Central Catholic High School as an instructor of physiology. He taught for 11 years. Isaac was affiliated with numerous organizations including three different choirs, the Ecumenical Disciples Choir, Heritage Chorale, and the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Celestial Choir. Isaac transferred his membership to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church under the pastorate of Julius C. Trimble. There, he served as a Lay Speaker for many years, as well as Chairperson of the Trustee Board, Chairperson of several Capital Campaigns, Chairperson of the Pastor Parish Committee, and member of the Administrative Council. Isaac enjoyed traveling with his wife. They traveled throughout the United States, toured Italy, and Austria. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His parents, Ernest and Sarah Hamilton, as well as beloved son, Isaac E. Hamilton, Jr., preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory; Jacquelyn Hamilton, his wife of 67 years; children; Jocelyn Quinn-York, Keith (Lisa) Hamilton, Kevin Hamilton, Sr.; grandchildren; Jacquelyn (Robert) Christian, Krystal Quinn, Kevin (Carolyn) Hamilton, Jr., Bryan Hamilton, Mya Alexander, Brandin (Megan) Hamilton, Bryant Hamilton, Marina (Cory) Borden, Cecilie Taylor, Marissa Taylor, Kourtney (Alexander) Lipkowski, Kenneth Hamilton; nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Beatrice McClendon; God children, Walt and Marie Goggans and a host of extended family and friends.
