Hellon Collins Obituary Helen Collins born “Hellon Hegler” May 29, 1925 in Locust Bayou, Arkansas to Rufus and Cleon Hegler, both preceding her in death. She was the youngest of five children, James Rufus, Ulysses, Zelma all preceding her in death and Maxine. Helen attended and graduated from Lincoln High School Class of 1955 in Camden, Arkansas. Shortly after graduating she and her son Ronald moved to Cleveland, Ohio seeking better opportunities. Helen became gainfully employed as a nursing healthcare worker in the pediatric unit of St. Luke Hospitals until her retirement. She then began working as a caretaker of the saints. She said the Lord told her to “take care of my people”. She did just that until her health no longer allowed. In 1968 Helen met and married the love of her life Roland Collins. They were happily married 35yrs until his passing in May 2003. Together their family consisted of two sons and three daughters. Mother Collins came to know the Lord in her youth under the pastorship of her late father in Arkansas. While in Cleveland, Ohio she was a member for a time at Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church under Rev. E.T. Caviness. However, she would soon return to her COGIC roots joining and faithfully serving at Hayes Temple COGIC under the leadership of the late Supt. Robert Williams. Upon taking over the pastorship in 2014, Supt. Marshall Shorts appointed Mother Collins the Church Mother and she served in this capacity until her sudden passing February 27. Mother Collins made it known to all that she loved her church and her pastor and his wife. She served with a willing heart, supporting, and attending regularly, sometimes not even feeling the best, she still showed up to help. She would always testify “You know the Lord has been good to me!” Her favorite activities included meeting monthly with the Birthday Club, shopping, cooking; especially for her pastor and wife and annually visiting family in Arkansas until her health prevented. She will be greatly missed. Mother Helen Collins leaves to cherish her memory her beloved and only son Ronald Hegler; three grandchildren, Bonetta Alexander (Ohio), Ronald (Alabama) and Vincent (Ohio); stepchildren Annette, Rhonda, Denise and Derek; sister Maxine Dillworth of Chicago, Illinois; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren; dearest cousin Sundra Goodwin (Arkansas); favorite nephews John Dale and Andrew Hegler (Arkansas); adopted goddaughter Bernice Sanders; loving neighbors who looked out for her Sonya Russell and her son Christopher Jenkins, a host of family, friends and her Hayes Temple COGIC church family.
