Gloria Poindexter Obituary Gloria Poindexter was born October 24, 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio to the union of Anna Ruth and Walter Burgess Poindexter who both preceded her in death. Gloria was the youngest daughter and the tenth of eleven children. Two sisters, Donna Wilson and Annette Ailer also preceded her in death. Gloria met and married David Scott and was blessed with two children, David and Deneanne. David has remained a friend to Gloria and her entire family. Later Gloria and Philip Golphin were blessed with two daughters, Danielle and DevAnn.Gloria attended Cleveland Public Schools and in her adult life she developed a passion for social work and counseling which fueled her ambition to pursue higher education. Gloria earned her Associates of Applied Science (Mental Health) from Cuyahoga Community College; her Bachelors of Social Work from Capital University and her Masters of Social Work from Cleveland State University.Gloria was a chemical dependency counselor (Harbor Light) and later a Social Worker at The Salvation Army. Gloria was active in her church and became a "soldier" in The Salvation Army.Gloria's steadfast determination to complete her studies, while raising her family and working full-time, has been an inspiration to her children and her nieces and nephews. She often offered them words of encouragement as they encountered challenges in their own pursuits.Gloria was funny, feisty, fabulous, finicky and famously frugal.She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and often hosted gatherings at her home. She was a good cook. She loved skating, traveling, dancing, watching old movies and doing volunteer work.Gloria departed this life on September 12, 2011.Left to mourn her passing is her son, David Burgess Poindexter (Angel); daughters, Deneanne Nicole Poindexter, Danielle Marie Golphin and DevAnn Elise Golphin; two grandchilren, Nathan, Lauren, Amanda, Kelly and Jeremy; sisters, Lucile Fielder (Otress), Janice Mathews, Jacquelyn Poindexter, Cheryl Wilson (Robert); brothers, Michael D. Poindexter (Frances) Larry Poindexter, Barry Poindexter and Ronald T. Poindexter a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, other relatives and numerous friends.
