Gloria McGhee Obituary GLORIA J. MCGHEE of Beachwood, Ohio, departed this life May 6, 2024, in Akron, Ohio. Gloria was born on August 6, 1943, at home in Crown, West Virginia to Thelma Hundley Goods (deceased) and Lemuel Cottingham (deceased). During her teen years, she enjoyed the hills of West Virginia. She was a 1961 graduate of Morgantown High School, Morgantown, West Virginia. On October 16, 1961, she married James McGhee (deceased). She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Notre Dame College of Ohio (1984) and her master’s in business administration from Baldwin Wallace College (1991). Gloria worked at various jobs prior to her IRS career. In 1971, Gloria embarked on a 36-year career with the U.S. Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service. During that time, she held a myriad of positions with increasing responsibilities that included working as a Taxpayer Service Representative, Tax Auditor, Revenue Agent, Quality Improvement Facilitator, Staff Assistant, Supervisory Revenue Agent, Examination Division Branch Chief, SPEC Territory Manager and Acting Area Director of IRS volunteer program for 130 employees in nine states and Puerto Rico. Upon retirement, Gloria received the Albert Gallatin Award, the Treasury’s highest award for long time excellence in serving 36 years at the Internal Revenue Service. For 19 years, Gloria was an Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Cuyahoga Community College (Eastern Campus) where she taught Individual and Business Taxes. For over 25 years Gloria worked part-time for the Akron Summit Community Action as the EITC Program Administrator overseeing the free preparation of income tax returns for low- and moderate-income families. In addition, she worked for six years as a staff accountant for McBride Tax Solutions performing audits, risk analysis, and taxes. Gloria loved her family, friends, and people. Her Motto was “Be thankful to God and be kind to others.” She was a dedicated and loving caregiver to her mother Thelma for 60+ years. Her love of family was evidenced by her faithfulness to the Henry and Minnie Davis Family Reunion for over 40 years and her unwavering support of and generosity to three generations of nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren, as well as numerous friends, co-workers, and mentees that she viewed as family. Gloria also enjoyed playing golf, reading, going to lunch and movies with friends and family, and working on her exercise program. Gloria accepted Jesus Christ at a young age and was baptized at Everlasting Baptist Church, in Everettsville, West Virginia. Until her passing Gloria had a deep and firm relationship with Jesus Christ. She continued to worship at First Baptist Church of South Euclid where she faithfully attended and served as a member of the trustee ministry and usher board. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents Thelma Hundley Goods and Lemuel Cottingham; brothers: McKanic, Thomas, Sr., Richard, William, Sr., and Leonard Goods, William, James, Milton, Leonard, and Lewis Cottingham; sisters Bertha Boyd, Helena Ford, Mildred Whiteside, Oletha Cottingham, Maxine Williams, and Susan Fuller. Gloria leaves to cherish and celebrate her memory her sister Ramona Collie (Boca Raton, Florida); brother Kenneth Cottingham (Beachwood, Ohio); Godchildren: Anthony (Carmen) Bryson (Richmond Heights, Ohio),Antoinette Bryson (North Carolina), Gerald Bryson (California), Paula Jo Washington (Virginia), and Kamren Borders(Cleveland, Ohio); best friend Bettye (Will) Bess (Richmond Heights, Ohio); special friend James Radford (Shaker Heights, Ohio); and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
