Georgia Thompson Obituary GEORGIA MAE THOMPSON Georgia Mae Booker Thompson was born in 1930 on the day of Love, February 14th in Oxford, Mississippi. She was the 8th of 9 children born to Newt and Georgia Anne Booker. She was preceded in death by her parents and all siblings. She was raised in a Christian household and accepted Christ at an early age. After graduating high school in Oxford, Georgia began working in the cafeteria at Ole Miss University. Little did she know that while working there she would meet her future husband of 72 years, Charles Lee Thompson. They entered into holy matrimony on March 4th, 1950. They would have their first child, Alexander, in November 1951. They would eventually move to Cleveland, Ohio for better opportunities. Shortly thereafter, they welcomed their second child, Charlene in August 1953. They bought a house in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood in Cleveland, which she and Charles would reside until the time of her passing. Georgia retired from the Cleveland Public School System in 1996 after 29 years of service as a Teacher’s Aide. In addition to her full time job, Georgia worked other jobs throughout her lifetime to ensure she could support and provide everything her family desired. Some of her roles consisted of domestic work and serving as a caterer for Hough bakery, and many of these roles were often at the same time. Shortly after arriving in Cleveland, Georgia and Charles joined Elizabeth Baptist Church. They were heavily involved in the church, and participated in many of the ministries. Georgia was a member of the Usher Board, the Pastor’s Aide committee, she participated in Prayer Service, and the Mission Society. She would go on to develop many lifelong friends from the church as well. Georgia enjoyed life to the fullest and participated in numerous activities. She was on a bowling team for years and even traveled to tournaments with her team. She loved traveling, oftentimes back to Mississippi and to Wisconsin, California, and New York. Georgia truly treasured the time she spent with family in these locations. Georgia was one of a kind, and it was evident in everyone she met. She lit up a room every time she walked in, whether it was with her warm spirit or her great sense of humor. If you were feeling down, she always knew what to say or do to put a smile on your face. She was a true humanitarian, often going out her way to make sure everyone had what they needed, whether it was a little money in their pocket, something to eat, or a bill paid. She is survived by her husband, Charles, and their children, Alexander Thompson (Jocelyn) of Orange County, CA and Charlene Thompson Bridges of Bedford Heights, OH. Her grandchildren, Angela Thompson of Houston, TX, Charles Thompson (Linda) of Orange County, CA, and Armond Adams of New York, NY. She is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Ruth Moore of Memphis, TN, and a host of nieces and nephews across the country.
