Ethel Hayward Obituary Ethel Louise Stevens was born August 25, 1936, to the union of Matthew Stevens and Andella Perkins Stevens, in Cleveland Ohio. She was third oldest of eleven children Grace (deceased), Matthew Jr. (deceased), Robert (deceased), Dorothy (deceased), Ardella (deceased), Emily, Esther (deceased), Erma, Charles, and Joan. Ethel was educated in the Cleveland Public Schools System. She also attended Nursing School, and seamstress school. Ethel was introduced to Christ at an early age by her grandmother Marie Perkins. Later in her life, she rededicated her life to Christ, and was baptized at Moses Free Spirit Missionary Baptist Church, under Pastor Lester C. Williams Sr. Ethel was a loving mother to her four children, Cassandra, Robert (deceased), James, and Valerie. Ethel worked as a Teachers’ Aide for the Cleveland Public Schools. She also worked as a Nurse’s Aide for Southwest General Hospital. Ethel last worked for The City of Cleveland, Department of Safety, where she went on to retire. Ethel enjoyed sewing. She especially loved making clothes for her children. She was excellent at sewing. Ethel also enjoyed taking one tank trips, especially traveling to her parents’ property in the country of Orwell, Ohio, where she spent many days enjoying the land with family and friends. She also loved beautifying her yard, especially planting beautiful flowers. Ethel loved going clothes shopping as well as shopping for sewing patterns and material to create something beautiful from dresses, pants, hats, coats and so much more. Ethel enjoyed walking before she began suffering from knee pain. She enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, mainly Family Feud. She also enjoyed watching her favorite sports team, the Cleveland Cavs. Ethel always enjoyed talking on the telephone with her children. She really enjoyed telling stories about her childhood days to her grandchildren. Ethel leaves to cherish her loving memory, three children, Cassandra, James (Stella Ross), and Valerie. Four siblings, Emily, Erma (Roland, deceased), Charles (Juanita), and Joan. Fourteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
