Ernest Turner Obituary Ernest Garfield Turner was born on June 2, 1950 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Woodrow and Alma Turner. He was the third of four children. Ernest’s family, the Turner’s, were a fixture on Hulda for over 60 years where Ernest was a precinct committee member and served his neighbors, friends, and family. In the early 60’s, Ernest professed his hope in Jesus and was baptized by the late Rev. John Dobbins at Providence Baptist Church and remained a faithful member. Ernest received his education in the Cleveland School System. In June 1968, he graduated from John Hay Senior High School where he was an outstanding basketball player. Ernest served his country by entering the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1975. Ernest attended Central State University and graduated in 1979 and later received a Master’s Degree in Education from Cleveland State University. After teaching in the Cleveland Public School district for 30 years, he retired in 2009. On January 3, 1981, Ernest welcomed his bundle of joy, Adeela, and continued to be a loving father to his daughter Shekema. Ernest was very active in the Police Civilian Review Board, The N.A., the neighborhood picnic at Luke-Easter Park, and many other community activities. His genuine love for people made it easy for them to be comforted. He was a brother to all who knew him as he would do all he could to help them. Ernest was truly a REMARKABLE man! Ernest leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and caring daughters Adeela and Shekema; devoted sisters: Janice Turner-Riley and Tracy (Dwayne) Cooper; one granddaughter: Amber Tarver; one grandson: Aaron Tarver; one great-grandson: Amaris Washington; one aunt: Ada Averyheart; three uncles: James Henry Averyheart, Willie Louis Averyheart (both of Cleveland, Ohio), and Rev. Dr. Thomas Averyheart of Brownsville, Tennessee; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other beloved relatives, friends, and special friend, Jennifer Roebuck, who made a big difference in the quality of both Ernest’s life and Ernest's mother's life as he cared for her.
