Elizabeth Wilson Obituary Elizabeth L. Wilson, who went to be with the Lord on April 14, 2020 was the epitome of a Godly woman. She was respected, revered, adored, and admired by those who knew her. Her life began on May 26, 1910, in Milledgeville, Georgia. Elizabeth was the last surviving child of seven. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Wilson-Brown (Charles – deceased), three grandchildren; Reggie J. White (deceased), Rhonda Wilson and Dawn Lutcher; five great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. Her parents – Alice Marie Spites and William “Will” Wheeler; her brother, Austeel Wheeler, Eugene Wheeler, Samuel Wheeler, Henry Wheeler and Harold Wheeler; sister, Evelyn Bedell have all preceded her in death. Her son, Donald Wilson has also preceded her in death. Elizabeth L. Wilson was a loving and kind grandmother, great grandmother and great great-grandmother. Elizabeth served her community and was active in many other organizations: She was one of the founding members of Community AME Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher, sand in the “Radio Choir”, and served on the Steward Board for approximately 30 years. During her tenure, she received recognition for her Christian character, consecration to the work of Christ and her leadership ability. She was recognized for her dedication and service in the church by the “Annie Fant Improvement Fund”, for forty-four years of service. She received a certificate of appreciation for her support of the youth of Community AME church. Her commitment to her church and dedication in service reflected that she strove daily to walk in His will. Elizabeth L. Wilson was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars and through her service she obtained the highest degree (33rd Degree) in the Order of Eastern Stars and the highest position – “Grand Worthy Matron”. She was an active member of, “The Companions of the Royal House A. A. A. S. R. of the United States of America, where she was appointed and commissioned to serve as Deputy in the State of Ohio. Through this commission she was authorized to organize and set up Houses of the Temple. As early as 1949, she received a Certificate of Merit from “The Supreme Camp of The American Woodmen” for her contribution to the Membership Building Program. In May of 1997, Elizabeth L. Wilson, because she exemplified unselfish love, genuine devotion, proven loyalty, steadfast patience, and commitment to the improvement of the community she received recognition as “Mother of the Year”, in Detroit, Michigan at Teola P. Hunter’s 14th Annal Pre-Mother’s Day Prayer Breakfast. She received the “Benefactor Certificate” for making a contribution to medical progress, from the May Foundation for Medical Education and Research. She served as Precinct Committee Official for the Republican Party for over 50 years and had received Certificates of Appreciation for dedicated service from the Cleveland Municipal Court. She received from the City of Cleveland, the title of Honorary Mayor from George Voinovich, December 1989. In January of 1989, she received an invitation to attend the American Bicentennial Presidential Inauguration for George Herbert Walker Bush. In 1990, she received an official White House portrait of President George H.W. Bush in appreciation of her support to the Republican Party. In 1996, she received Certificates of Appreciation in recognition of an outstanding record of voting consistently for fifty years in the state of Ohio from Bob Taft and County Commissioners. In 2000, she received a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding service as Ward Leader in the Village of Orange from the Cuyahoga Board of Elections. She was a Board member of the Republican Rippon Club of the Republican Party. She has received Certificates for Appreciation for her service and support in protecting the future of the Social Security from the Board of Trustees of the Seniors Coalition. Received in 1997 and 1998 a Certificate of Appreciation as a friend of America’s law enforcement from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, Chagrin Falls, for honoring the sacrifices of the brave men and women slain in the line of duty. She was a lifetime member of the NAACP. The contributions that Elizabeth L. Wilson has made to her community, to society and her church truly speaks volumes of her life. Her life’s work and faith were living testimonials of God’s goodness. Her light indeed shone bright. She touched and helped many lives through her goodness, love, understanding, mercy, peace, and joy.
