Barbara Jean (Momma Barbara) Carmichael

Barbara Carmichael Obituary Barbara Jean Carmichael, affectionately known as (Momma Barbara) was born on December 29, 1937 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late John James and the late Claire Rufus Wyatt. To this union, she was the only girl with two brothers, John James III and Emmett Hartford, whom both preceded her in death. Barbara left Jacksonville at the age of three to live with her grandparents in Covington, Georgia. There she would continuously refer back to times where she had to pick cotton and work the family’s farm. She left Georgia in the late 1940s’ with her father and two brothers on a path to Cleveland, Ohio. Once in Cleveland, Barbara planted her feet and in 1953, she met Donald Carmichael, fell in love, married and had 2 children. On April 7th, 1955, Barbara gave birth to her son, Donald Jr. and 14 months later on June 30th, 1956 gave birth to her daughter, Tonia Celeste. This union was short lived and they separated their ways. As a single mother, Barbara went on to complete Nursing School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at VA Hospital in Cleveland. It was there, she was given the opportunity to work with the famous movie stars, Robert Deniro and Christopher Walken in the 1978 motion picture “The Deer Hunter”. Outside of Nursing, she also worked as a postal worker as well as obtaining a Realtors’ license. In her 84 years, Barbara had a full life, She loved singing, dancing, telling stories of her life and most of all expressing her love for her beloved children, whom she affectionately referred to as Donnie and Toni. Sadly, they both preceded her in death. Donald at the age of 21 and Tonia at the age of 52. However, she still had an abundance of love from her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. And she was extremely happy she outlived Anthony Sowell!! Barbara leaves to mourn her passing, 4 grandchildren: Carmella Turrentine, Markiesha Jacobs (deceased), Donnita Carmichael and Jonathan Carmichael (Brittani), 12 great grandchildren: Doniesha, Robert, Marquise, LaShaun, Michai, Zariya, Carissa, Cherelle, Cheria, Rodney (RJ), Baylee and Brooklynn. 7 great great granchildren: Amyre, Tyrell, Siron, Morgan, Nasir, Marquise (Kai) and Layla.
