Alvin Scales Obituary Alvin W. Scales age 70 passed away at his home in Columbus, Ohio on November 2, 2021. He was born on July 22, 1951. Alvin was a beloved son whose mother once said he showed his love through his cooking. He was a strong-willed man who was uncompromising in his belief in Christianity. He was very religious and turned to his faith and God for comfort throughout his life. His most valuable possession was his bible and requested that he be buried with it. Alvin will be greeted in the afterlife by his father Albert Jr., mother Mary, and his son and namesake Alvin Jr. He is survived by his beloved grandson Alvin with whom he built a very close bond over the years after the passing of his son Alvin Jr. He is also survived by his grandchildren Julia, Nicholas, Brooklyn and Braylon, his sons Alex, Aaron and Ivory, his son’s girlfriend and chosen daughter Mercedez, his siblings Albert III, Sarita Holly, and Spring, brother-in-law Mark, and many nieces and nephews. Alvin married Anita Williams a union that produced three sons. He graduated from John Carroll University. He held many jobs throughout his life including working at AT&T. He went to cooking school and acquired the knowledge and skill to become a chef and the best cook in the family. He passed on a lot of his cooking knowledge to his son Alex during many hours in the kitchen preparing meals for his sons. Cooking was his true passion from deep-frying seafood, cooking meat on the barbecue, and smoking turkey and chicken using fruit juice to add flavor. Alvin had many passions in life. He loved sports and passed this love down to his sons. He once said I’m going to have a basketball player (Alvin), a hockey player (Alex), and a football player (Aaron). He did everything in his power to help his sons achieve excellence in these fields. He took them to private lessons, enrolled them in camps, and put up a basketball hoop in the backyard so they could work on their game. He spared no expense, time, or financial. One of his favorite things to do was attend his son’s sporting events where his voice could be heard above all others in the gym. He also enjoyed going to amusement parks, where he would ride the tallest roller coasters, going to the movies, going swimming on hot summer days, going horseback riding, and on special occasions cooking crab legs for dinner with his sons. He also had hobbies such as collecting baseball cards, comic books, movies, CDs, and model trains which he passed down to his boys. Alvin taught his sons many things when they were growing up through his words and actions. I think he would say his greatest accomplishment in life was being a loving grandfather to his grandson Alvin. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. May his soul REST IN PEACE.
