Mr. William G. Logan

William (Bill) Green Logan entered this life on September 24, 1934 in Zanesville, Ohio. He was eighth in line of nine children born to John Weslely Logan, Jr. and Clara D. Logan. Childhood days were filled with church, school, work, and adventures with siblings and cousins. As a "preacher's kid," Bill received a firm spiritual foundation in the church his father pastored, and often accompanied him to preaching engagements in neighboring towns. In high school at Zanesville High, Bill distinguished himself by excelling in football. When a change of residence, however, rendered him ineligible to play in his senior year, he proudly marched ahead of the band as its drum major at football games. As a youth, Bill enjoyed having nice things and developed a strong work ethic to nourish that desire. While going to school, his jobs included working at Bogg's Service Station, caring for an invalid attorney; working for a furnture store, and delivering cars to Cleveland. During this time he also became intensely interested in motorcycles and bought a motorcycle. While still living in Zanesville, Bill's talent in singing emerged as a member of The Five Followers of Christ, a quintet that sang at various churches nearby. He also became an accomplished drummer and would often sit in with local bands. Subsequent to high school graduation, Bill worked brieftlly in factory, married, and later relocated to Cleveland in 1956. The move ushered in the beginning of a number of jobs that showcased his diverse abilities and considerable managerial skills. Bill first worked for Atlas Paving, where he learned all aspects of the bussiness and became foreman of a crew of 12. His drive and ambition led him to become skilled at repairing the heavy equipment used on paving jobs, as well. Other occupations followed: insurance agent and manager for National Life Insurance Company, zone manager for Premier Industrial Corporation, maintenance manager and housing inspector for the Village of Highland Hills, road inspector for a local engieering firm, In addition, he served in the Naval Reserves. Throughout his life, Bill used his time, talents, and managerial skills for the Lord in church. Shortly after arriving in Cleveland, he affiliated with the Mount Pleasant Church of God (now Fellowship Church of God) where he enjoyed singing in the choir and, also, directing the choir for brief time. In 1987, Bill joined the Euclid Ave. Church of God (now Church of the Harvest Church of God) where he met and married his wife, Martha (nee Ward). They served in the church together, he more prominently as a trustee board member and intermittently, as chairman for many years. Bill was respected in the cdhurch for his strong leadership abilities and wise counsel. His melodious tenor voice could be heard singing nearly every Sunday morning in the choir. Bill had a variety of interests that included rebuilding cars, boating, camping, golfing, and bicycling. He loved socializing, was a great conversationalist, and met people easily. Although Bill never accepted the preacher's mantle, he was deeply concerned that those he loved and met had a relationship with the Lord. He was bold in his faith and was not ashamed to share it with anyone he knew and met. Bill moved from life to reward on November 12th. He was preceded in death by his son Steve, his parents; brothers Charles, Raymond, Samuel and Daniel (twins), sister Dora Harvey. Remaining to cherish precious memories are his wife, Martha, and children; William G., Jr. (Linda), Brian C., Sr. (Eileen), Allison J. Atwell (Tim), and step-daughter Laura R. McLellan (Darrell); siblings Josephine Hill, Betty Jean Norris (Bill), and James, Sr. (Euolinda); eleven grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends. Bill leaves a legacy of love, loyalty, and commitment to God, to his family, and to his friends. Although he will be sorely missed, our lasting comfort is that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Amen.
