William Jackson Obituary William Edward Jackson was born on December 2, 1932 in Montgomery, Alabama to Lee and Marie Jackson - the fifth of seven children. William met his wife Johnnye Jones at George Washington Carver High School, where they both attended. He was a star football player and she was a debutant and Homecoming queen. He also had a strong aptitude for numbers evidenced by him taking first place in the state of Alabama in a mathematics competition. He attended college at Alabama A & M and Tuskegee Institute and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. After serving with the Air Force, William and Johnnye were married July 7, 1957. He worked for Union Carbide, the City of Cleveland and Rockwell Automation where he worked until retirement. An avid golfer, he developed his love of golf working as a caddie in his early years. As the years progressed, his passion for golf continued as he frequented many golf courses in Northeast Ohio and acquired the nickname "Longball" because of his ability to hit long tee shots. He served as a member of the Chippers golf club and The NNGA golf club for many years. During retirement, he enjoyed a number of family vacations which included Cancun, Mexico, Maui, Hawaii, and a number of cruises. William Edward Jackson went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living in Richmond Heights, OH. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 59 years, Johnnye, his son Eric (Maria) of Phoenix, AZ, his daughter Monique Jackson of Cleveland, OH, his sister Rose Jackson of Cleveland, OH, his nephew Reginal Jackson (Cynthia) of Troy, MI, nieces Yvette James (Churchill) of Cape Coral, FL and Andrea Jackson of New York NY, a number of cousins and host of friends.
