Vallie Goggans

Valley M. Goggans was born on January 19, 1923 in Hissop, Alabama to the late Willie Franklin Leonard and Claude Mitchell Leonard. She was the second oldest of four daughters and five sons born to this union. Two brothers, Plesby and David preceded her in death. She received her formal education at the Coosa County Training School in Alabama. She was united in holy matrimony to Samuel Phillip Goggans (aka "Candyman") on November 30, 1940 in Hissop, Alabama. Vallie confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Home Baptist Church in Hissop, Alabama. She and Samuel moved their family to Cleveland, Ohio in the 1950. In Cleveland she and her family affiliated with Safeway Baptist Church and New Light Baptist Church. After the passing of her husband in 1985, she later became a devoted member of the Christian Brotherhood Apostolic Church on E. 174th St. and Miles Road under the spiritual leadership of the Bishop Simpson and currently Bishop Lee Hamilton as pastor. She devoted her life to Christ and Christian ministries. After her children were all started in school, Vallie started working at Minx Brothers Laundry. She later was employed by and retired from Lutheran Hospital, where was in the Laundry Department for over 20 years. Her favorite actives and hobbies included: participation in church and church auxiliary ministries, gardening, sewing, cooking, exercising, conversations with family and friends and learning new things. Valley passed away on to God's hands on Tuesday April 3, 2013. She leaves to cherish her memory 8 children: Claudia Sistrunk (William), Carrie Walker (Clarence), Robert (Johnnie Mae), Ellis, Samuel Jr. (Yolonda), Lawrence, Anthony Sr. and Jamillah Abdul Zahir. One son, Richard (Patricia) preceded her in death. She also leaves her loving and devoted siblings: Augusta Lauderdale, Rev. Charles F. Leonard (Rebecca), Rev. Early L. Leonard (Lillian), John Leonard, Lee Dorothy Edmond (Holman), and Loretta Marbury (Rev. Jack); one brother-in law, Abraham Goggans (Frankie), two sister-in-laws, Mary Love Brooks and Bessie Williams She was the adored and loving grandmother of 34, great grandmother of 68 and great great grandmother of 12. In addition, she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other dear relatives and friends. Rest in Peace in God Loving Arms Humbly Submitted The Family
