Rosie "Rose" L. Terrell

Rosie Terrell Obituary Mrs. Rosie (Rose) Lee Terrell was born on January 7, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Willie and Estella Dockins. She was lovingly raised by the late Flora White. “Rose,” as everyone affectionately knew her, moved to Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of five. At the age of 12, Rose accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She joined and attended Temple Baptist Church, where she was baptized by the late Eugene Ward. In 1993, she became a member of The Star of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of founder Rev. L. T. Randle Sr. Her deep love for the Lord led her to serve in various roles at Star, including nurse, Sunday school teacher, member of the Courtesy Committee, Women’s Ministry, and President of the Missionary Society. Rose was also a devoted member of “The Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 16, Cleveland, OH,” where she practiced virtues such as obedience, devotion to religious values, fidelity, faith in the Redeemer, and charity. Her dedication and devotion to serving the Lord were also reflected in her career. Rose received her early education in Cleveland Public Schools and worked for many years as a presser. Her compassion for the sick, elderly, and disabled led her to a fulfilling career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, from which she retired after 32 years of service. While she was a devoted servant of the Lord and radiated femininity, she also knew how to enjoy a good time. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, and dancing to good music. Passionate about Black history, she even compiled her own scrapbook on the subject. Christmas was her favorite holiday—not only because it celebrated Jesus’s birth but also because it was the birthday of her late brother, Frank. Rose often said she was “Blessed by The Best.” She was always the life of the party and a woman who meant business. Family was everything to her, and she cherished every moment with them. On Sunday, February 9, 2025, Rose gained her wings. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Terrell Jr.; her children, John Terrell III and Teresa Hamilton; her brothers, Willie Dockins Jr., Frank Dockins, James Dockins, and Joe Nelson; her sister, Carrie Peterson; and her great-grandson, Kyrie Wright. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Andre Terrell of Athens, Georgia, and George Terrell of Cleveland, Ohio; her daughters, Gwendolyn Bush of Crawford, Georgia, Valerie Byrne (Patrick) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Yolanda Terrell of Athens, Georgia. She is also survived by her brothers, Rufus Dockins of Memphis, Tennessee, and Arthanial Bailey (Carolyn) of Memphis, Tennessee; her sister, Ethel Bailey of Memphis, Tennessee; 17 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
