Geneva Thomas Obituary She was blessed ……… Geneva Reynolds-Thomas was born on May 28th, 1939 to Carrie and Nelson Reynolds in Cleveland , Ohio. As their only child, she was the "light of their lives". Geneva was a precocious child who excelled at every activity that she endeavored. She was beautiful to behold with big , inquisitive brown eyes that saw everything, and questioned everything. "Affectionately known as "Gin" by friends and family, she displayed an outgoing, humorous personality that wanted to learn and experience as much as she could. Geneva attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from East Technical High School. She was strong academically, excelling in math and science. Gin was definitely a "people person" in high school. She was a majorette and participated in several extra curricular activities that displayed her leadership qualities and outgoing personality. Gin married George Acker shortly after high school and they were gifted with a beautiful daughter, Ramena Acker. She successfully navigated multiple roles as a wife, mother ,and telephone operator for what was once known as Ohio Bell. Her ambitious nature led her to pursue several occupations that each led to greater advancement. Gin pursued modeling ,and various small business ventures .Highlights of her career included the field of real estate where she worked as a realtor and ultimately became a loan officer. Gin was always open to self-improvement, which prompted her and a few close friends to complete a Meta Physics Program through the Sylvan Learning Center Gin enjoyed conducting "self-help "seminars as a result of the training. One in particular was called, "Success Comes in Cans" After her first marriage ended, Gin eventually met and married the true "love of her life" Robert "Bobby "Thomas. As a dynamic duo , Gin encouraged Bob’s success as The first African-American Vice President of a Fortune 500 Company. This power couple accepted Christ as their personal savior and became members of Bethany Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio where they actively served the Lord and their community with dedication and vigor. Gin and her daughter Rommie would eventually convert to The Unity School of Christianity. Gin and Bob left Cleveland in the early 1970’s due to the expansion of Bob’s career. They lived in Southfield Michigan briefly before relocating to Atlanta, Georgia. After Bob retired they spent their time traveling the world, cooking, fishing, and enjoying family and friends. Gin ,who was always known for her chic sense of style and love of dancing started her own business, " Rommie’s Happy Feet". She cemented her reputation as " line dance instructor extraordinaire" throughout Metropolitan Atlanta and the suburbs. Often performing at weddings, special events etc , Gin and her students were well known amongst Atlanta’s social strata. This charismatic couple continued to live their best life in Atlanta for over 40 years until Bob’s unexpected passing in 2009. Gin continued to thrive despite this devastating blow. She had learned to live with unspeakable pain after losing her dear mother Carrie, her father Nelson ,her grandmother Sarah, and the terrible heartbreak of losing her only child, affectionately known as Rommie in 1996. Despite life’s tragedies, Gin never stopped encouraging and uplifting others. She continued to go shopping, go dancing, attend civic and political events, and her favorite pastime, visiting her cousin Lois in Florida, and her cousin Janice in Cleveland where she had access to dear family and friends that spanned decades. Gin especially treasured the opportunity to see her great- grand children and marvel at their growth and development. On December 7,2019, Geneva was called home. She left precious memories to her grandson D’waun Lawayne Clark, great grand children, Que"Airra , Olivia, Aiyanna, Izyck , and Xi. Sadly, Gin did not have the opportunity to meet her great, great grandchild, Kahlani Geneva Renee Bradley. Gin is greatly missed by a host of family and friends, including her closest cousins, Janice Williams , the late Sarah McDuffie , Sheron Rose, and Annie Lois Butler.
