Mrs. Nellie C. Scott

Aunt Nellie’s Story Nellie Catherine Richardson, was born on September 30, 1914 to Rev. Charles Thomas Richardson and Willie Johnson Richardson in Lyndhurst, VA. She was the second youngest of ten siblings, all of which preceded her in death. Nellie was baptized early in life at the church that her father founded, Beulah Baptist Church, in Lyndhurst, VA. She attended school there, as well. She was the second youngest of ten siblings, all of which preceded her in death. Seeking a better life, Nellie moved to Pittsburgh, Pa to be close to her brother Lacey and sister Alma, where she attended cosmetology school, and later came to Cleveland, to be close to her sister, Mabel. Nellie married the love of her life, Harmon Scott. No children were born of this union. Nellie had a passion for fashion and the color purple. You could always find her with her makeup and her many accessories. For a short time she worked as a cosmetologist. Although she had several employment opportunities she retired as a stenographer from Metro General Hospital, Cuyahoga County. Nellie was also a life-long member of the NAACP. She was full of life, even in her old age. She loved to dance and would sing often. In her final days, she was heard singing the old Negro hymn, “I Want to Be Ready to Walk in Jerusalem Just Like John.” Nellie enjoyed time spent with her family. Whenever there was a celebration going on, Nellie was in the midst, laughing and sharing and having her glass of Chardonnay. Nellie has numerous, cousins, nieces, nephews, great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews that brought her joy whenever she could be with them. She truly was a gift from God and we were blessed to have known and loved her. So Go And Run Free So, go and run free with the angels {Aunt Nellie}. Dance around the golden clouds For the Lord has chosen you to be with Him and we should feel nothing but Proud. Although he has taken you from us And our pain a lifetime will last Your memory will never escape us But make us glad for the time we had. Your face will always be hidden Deep inside our hearts.
