Milorene Baker Obituary Milorene Stovall was born in Hillsboro, Alabama into the loving Christian home of Louis and Madlean (né White) Stovall on September 5, 1934. She was the first born child of their union followed by Louis Jr., Robert, Samuel, Howard (deceased), and Sharon. The family moved from Alabama when Milorene was 12 years old and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. Milorene grew up in the Kinsman neighborhood and graduated from Central High School in 1952, where she was well liked by her peers. At the age of 19 while out roller skating with her brothers one night, she caught the eye of a handsome young man by the name of Wilburn Baker; they were inseparable from then on. Wilburn and Milorene were married on October 9, 1954. Wilburn's parents, John and Pearl, along with his six siblings Evelyn (deceased), Joan, Johnny, Donald (deceased), Judy and Patricia, lovingly embraced Milorene into their family. Milorene and Wilburn had four children, Sherry (deceased), Regina, Gregory and Kristi, whom they encouraged to strive for excellence in education, the appreciation of the arts and the fundamentals of leading a Christian Life. Mil and Wil were devote Christians and were both very active at Antioch Baptist Church, where Milorene sang in the sanctuary choir, and was a member of the Ruth B. McKinney Missionary circle, where she did volunteer work in nursing homes and throughout the community. She also enjoyed fellowship and built many long lasting friendships at Antioch, especially through her birthday club the Awayouts. In addition to being a religious woman, Milorene was a homemaker who was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed doing crafts and sewing, often making outfits for herself and other family members. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping. She loved catching a good sale and could often be found at the mall most Saturday afternoons. She was also thrifty and sometimes did small repairs around the home. In 1973, at the encouragement of her sister in law Joan, Milorene applied for a job with the Cleveland School system and thus began her career as a teacher's aide. She helped many students become better readers at Audubon and Harry E. Davis Junior High Schools. She retired in 1996 after the passing of her father so that she could help take care of her aging mother. In 2014 Milorene’s health began to decline as she suffered from a series of strokes and was moved into a nursing home as Wilburn and the family could no longer take care of her increasing needs. Wilburn’s health began to decline as well and he passed away in 2016. Milorene lived her last years at Highland Pointe Nursing Home and Rehab. Despite her declining health, she was known for her affable ways and positive attitude. She was beloved by the staff and residence, who showed her lots of kindness during her time there. In late September of 2021, she was diagnosed with Covid-19 and her health began to decline further. In the early morning hours, November 30, 2021, Milorene gained her wings. She was loved by so many and will be missed by all. Milorene is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Madlean, her in laws John and Pearl, brother in law Donald, brother Howard, her husband Wilburn, daughter Sherry and her sister in law Evelyn. She leaves to mourn her children Regina, Gregory (Denise) and Kristi (David); son in law Ronald; grandchildren, Danielle, Kimberly, Gregory, Jaden and Noah; great grandchildren Kal’el, Jeremiah, Mikayla, and Kaylei; brothers Louis Jr. (Estella), Robert (Gwen), Samuel (Dorothy), and sister Sharon; sisters in laws Joan, Judy and Pat (Jeffery), Sherry, and Roselyn; brother-in-law Johnny and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
