Mildred "Mitzi" (Dove) Porter

Mildred Porter Obituary Mildred Dove affectionately known as 'Mitzi" was born May 16 , 1926 in Akron, OH to Joseph and Lucy Dove. Mildred was the ninth of ten children who all preceded her in death. Mildred attended Akron Public Schools. She received her GED in the 1980's, in Cleveland, Ohio. Mildred met James Porter in 1945 in Akron, Ohio. They married September 28,1946. To this union nine children were born and Mildred acquired three additional loving daughters from James. Mildred and James were married for 47 years before James' death in 1993. She was a stay at home mom until all of her children became of school age. Mildred worked part - time at the Hough Drug Store for several years. She also worked for the Cleveland Public Schools for 28 years where she retired in 1995. Mildred was an avid fan of softball. She and James founded the Thurgood Marshall Softball team " The Good Boys". She spent hours at Thurgood Marshall watching the games. Mildred's favorite baseball player was Kenny Lofton of the Cleveland Indians Baseball Team. She was also a huge fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Mildred loved to read, draw, color, do jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles and cook. She loved spending time with all her family. Mildred joined The Star of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in 1994, under the leadership of the late Rev. L.T Randle where she was a member of the Mothers Guild. Mildred loved her church family as her own. She attended regularly until her health prevented her to attend. Mildred " Mitzi" departed this life peacefully in her sleep on August 1,2020. Preceding her in death, daughter Ruth ( Rochester, N.Y), daughter Mary Louise (Cleveland, OH),son James Michael Porter (Cleveland, OH),and son Kenneth Porter (Cleveland, OH), Grandchildren, Rickey ( Rochester, NY), Stephen ( FL),Michael E. ( Chili) 9 Cleveland, OH ), James Grant IV ( Columbus, OH).
