Melvin Grady Jr. Obituary On the afternoon of October 25, 2020, Melvin Grady, Jr., passed away peacefully . Melvin was being visited and comforted by family members at the Hospice of Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio at the time of his passing. Melvin was 88 years old. Melvin Grady, Jr. was born in the town of DeKalb in Kemper County, Mississippi on January 14, 1932. He was the sixth child of eight, and the fourth son, to the union of Sadie Bohannon and Melvin Grady, Sr. Melvin attended Whisenton High School in DeKalb, MS. During his early years while living in Mississippi, he was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. In 1950, Melvin moved to Cleveland, Ohio to gain employment with Republic Steel. During his early tenure at Republic Steel, Melvin was drafted in 1952 into the United States Army Korean Conflict War). Upon his General Discharge, Melvin travelled back to DeKalb, Mississippi and on May 14, 1955 he met and married the love of his life, Eilean Hampton. Subsequently, the two of them moved to Cleveland, where Melvin resumed his tenure with Republic Steel, where he poured steel for thirty years upon his retirement. Melvin was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, viewing football games, listening to the blues, traveling to and from Mississippi to spend time with his beloved family, and he loved to laugh. He loved his family and friends very deeply. His biggest impact was in the community. He was loved and known by practically everyone as “L.A.,” “Sunshine,” “Mosquito.” He never met a stranger and routinely helped those that needed help. Melvin often jokingly claimed that he poured 100 percent perfect steel during his tenure at Republic Steel and never spilled a drop! He also loved telling lottery enthusiasts to stop playing the lottery and play 840, eight hours a day and forty hours a week. While Melvin will be sorely missed by all who knew him, he would want everyone to know that he was more than prepared and eager to meet his Lord and Savior. He had run his race and was prepared to be offered up. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Eilean Grady; one daughter, Marilyn Grady-Jones (Antoine); two sons, Ray Grady (Nancy), Jerome Grady (Cassandra); grandchildren, LaKeya, Jerome, Jr., Jamario, Tre, Graeme; plus 4 great grandchildren and his many nephews and nieces (special love to his predeceased aunt, Hannah Bohannon Clemons).
