Ms. Mary L. Robinson

Mary Katherine Lewis was born on June 9, 1928 in Horning, Pennsylvania to Henry Sr. and Gertrude Lewis. An excellent student; she graduated from South Huntingdon High School receiving her diploma. She worked for Pennsylvania Bell in Pittsburgh and commuted daily by train from her mother’s home in nearby Fitz Henry. She married James Robinson in 1952 and they resided in Bellevue, Pennsylvania; a suburb of Pittsburgh. Later they moved to Cleveland, Ohio and she transferred to work for Ohio Bell. Mary worked there until she retired as a supervisor with thirty years of dedicated service. Together with “Jimmy” they raised her pride and joy, Deborah Ann. The family home was in Cleveland Heights on Forest Hills Boulevard. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ Forest Hill and was a part of the church’s 50+ Club. The Church of Christ Forest Hill was her church home until her health declined. Mary was talented at knitting and loved to spend time gardening. Bus trips became a favorite way to spend time with her sisters, Elizabeth and Gertrude. The most memorable excursions were trips to Vermont and Kentucky. She also traveled to Las Vegas, Germany, and took several cruises with her husband Jimmy. Family was important to her. Her home was always kept beautifully and she loved to entertain family there. The family has many fond memories of great times at Mary and Jimmy’s. Mary was a nurturer and caretaker. When her mother became ill, Mary took a leave of absence to care for her until her mother’s passing. Later she cared for Jimmy when his health declined, even designating one room for his in-home dialysis care. She was proud of the fact that she and she alone was able to take care of Jimmy until his death. She was diagnosed with dementia and had been lovingly cared for by her sister Gertrude and Gertrude’s family since 2013. Over the last years they formed a doting tight bond with her and a new family unit with many funny stories and memories including family vacations, graduations, holidays and birthdays. Her illness progressed and on March 10, 2018 she was moved to The Hospice of the Western Reserve, David Simpson House. She passed away on May 13, 2018 at 11:25am. Her passing was peaceful with Gertrude, her nephews - Julius and Ethan and niece - Terri at her side holding her hand. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter; brothers William Greenlee, Haywood Bush, Sr., Richard Lewis, Charles Lewis and Henry Lewis; sisters Lillian Ruth Bell and Patricia Gordon. Mary leaves to mourn and cherish her memory: her sisters Elizabeth Wheeler (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Beatrice Lynch (Talmadge) and Gertrude L. Kelso both of University Heights, Ohio; sister-in-law Annabell Lewis of Hopkinsville, Kentucky and a host of nieces and nephews whose lives she touched.
