Marie Brewton Obituary Marie Ida Brewton was born to Boyd James (BJ) and Katie Long, on their wedding anniversary, November 20th, in Freeport, Illinois. She was the third of four daughters: Dorothy Long Jackson (deceased), Beatrice Jones (deceased), and Gloria Johnson of Normal, Illinois.After graduating from Freeport High School in 1952, she moved to Cleveland where she met her husband, John Wesley Brewton, and was married in 1956. Marie had many jobs during her working career. She was a soda jerk at Howard Johnson's, a shopping clerk at The May Company, and worked for the United States Navy for eight years. She then moved on to work as a Data Review Technician for the Social Security Administration. Twenty two years later, she was offered a special provision and retired early in 1987.Marie's favorite pastime was reading, doing crossword puzzles, and enjoying the company of her many dogs. She also loved to take road trips with her friends to the casinos and play bid whist. Her favorite time of year was Christmas when she would decorate the house to make it look festive for company. For more than 15 years, she was a proud member of East View United Church of Christ, helping out whenever called upon. She loved taking care of her plants and flowers indoors and out, and knitting and crocheting afghan cover-ups for friends and family alike. More recently, she became an avid Cleveland sports fan and cheered them on for every game. Marie is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Wesley Brewton, her daughter Tracye F. Brewton, her sister Gloria Johnson, of Normal, Illinois, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, BJ and Katie Long; sisters Dorothy Long Jackson and Beatrice Jones, and brother Nate Long.Memorial Services will be held October 1st, at 1:00 pm, at E.F. Boyd and Son Funeral Home, 25900 Emery Road, in Warrensville Heights.
