Mable Ruth Jones, Age 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. Beloved wife of Clarence (deceased); devoted mother of Gregory Jones, Sr. (Shirley, deceased), Alcillia Clifford, Barnetta Duhart (Larry) of Cincinnati, OH and the late Hillery Jones and Reginald Jones; dear sister of Armittie Heard (John, deceased) of Memphis, TN and James Gipson (deceased) (Geneva); cherished grandmother of Gregory Jones, Jr., Sherrae Dorsey (Glenn), David Clifford (Ruth), Jennifer Jones Edwards (Kevin), Benjamin Duhart and Brianna Duhart; great-grandmother of five and many precious nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Wake Saturday, April 23rd, 10:30 AM at Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church, 1161 E. 105th St. followed by Homegoing service at 11 AM. Arrangements entrusted to the E. F. Boyd & Son Funeral Home, 2165 E. 89th St. Interment Highland Park Cemetery. ~A Dedicated Life~ Mable Ruth Gipson was born in 1921 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, a cotton-producing town once the cultural center of Woodruff County. She was one of seven children of the late James and Minnie Gipson: Sarah Manuel (deceased), Renzie Gipson (deceased), Ruth Long (deceased), James and Wonzo Gipson (deceased). Only sister Armittie Heard of Memphis, Tenn. remains. At the age of 12, Mable sustained an immobilizing illness. Her mother placed a gold cross around her neck and she and her mother prayed she could walk again. It was during her healing, Mable dedicated her life long service to Christ. Leaving the family farm, after graduating from high school, Mable moved to Memphis to attend business college. There, she met the love of her life, Clarence Jones. The couple married in 1941 and shared a blissful life of 50 years before her husband’s death in 1991. To this union five children were born: Gregory Jones, Hillery Jones (deceased), Reginald Jones (deceased), Alcillia Jones Clifford and Barnetta Duhart (Larry). She was blessed with six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In 1945, Mable and Clarence settled in Cleveland. Before long, the couple joined The Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church where she remained a member for 65 years. She joined the Young Adult Choir and later the Gospel Choir of which she was also a member until illness prevented her from singing. A former president and vice president of the Missionary Society’s Lydia Circle, Mable enjoyed participating in her Circle’s annual Christmas party at an area nursing home. Her beloved husband was a Deacon and she remained a Deaconess. Affectionately known as “Mother Dear,” or simply “Dear,” Mable loved church, was fond of gardening, cooking and entertaining friends and family. Though diminutive in stature, Mable was truly her family’s tireless caretaker. Mourning her transition are her sister; Armittie Heard (John, deceased), children; Gregory Jones (Shirley, deceased), Alcillia Jones Clifford, Barnetta Duhart (Larry); grandchildren; Gregory C. Jones, Jr., Sherrae Dorsey (Glenn), David Clifford (Ruth), Jennifer Edwards (Kevin), Benjamin Duhart, and Brianna Duhart; great grandchildren; Dexter W. Dorsey, Emmanuel Lewis, Gabriel Clifford, Carter Edwards and Elijah Clifford. Extended family members include: Thelma Simmons, Ellen Clifford, Mr. & Mrs. Ben Ramos, Rev. Gerald D. Kisner (Mamie), Ronald E. Kisner and Cynthia Kisner Shelby.
