Luther Robinson Obituary A TIME TO BE BORN Luther Robinson was born in a town called Greenwood, South Carolina on June 23, 1922 to the late Clifton and Sallie Bell (McIntosh) Robinson. He was the eighth of fourteen children born to this union. There was a divine plan for his life as he was chosen as the patriarch of the Robinson family. Luther was preceded in death by his parents; Clifton Robinson and Sallie Bell (McIntosh) Robinson, step-mother Roberta Robinson, wife Lois Robinson, all siblings with the exception of one, daughter-in-law Linda Robinson, grandson Kevin Robinson, and three great-grandchildren, Maurice, Anthony, and Ron’nae. A TIME TO SERVE Luther enlisted in the United States Army during WWII and was assigned to Company C, 317th Engineer Combat Battalion (ECB) from March 1943 through December 1945. His tours of duty included Europe and Africa where he served in the following campaigns: Naples-Foggia, Rome-ARNO, North Apennines, and P.O. Valley. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (EAMET) with four bronze stars, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He separated as a Private First Class (PFC) and received an honorable discharge. In January 1946, he married his sweetheart, the late Lois Greer. Luther and Lois were married for 68 years before she preceded him in death in November 2014. This union was blessed with six children, 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren. He worked as a roofer and a construction worker where he earned $31 a week and paid $ 1 for a room and $5 for food. Looking for better opportunities and under the recommendation of his brother-in-law James Carter (deceased), they decided to branch out and moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Luther Robinson was employed for one year at Ferro Founding, followed by fifteen years at American Steel, and finally retired in 1984 after 22 years with Ferro Engineering. In his early years he was a social butterfly who was the life of any party and enjoyed dancing. It was a guaranteed to find him on the dance floor. He truly loved to play cards with his brothers, son-in-law’s, and whoever was willing to play every weekend. Luther was a man of wisdom, knowledge, and charisma; and loved to tell stories and jokes to anyone who would listen. Luther was strong, positive, down to earth and a true provider who loved spending time with his family. He helped raise, shape, and mold, generation after generation with patience and persistence. Luther was a faithful member of Shekhinah Glory Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Gregory Moore. The bible tells us in Psalm, the days of our years are threescore years and ten that is seventy years, Luther epitomizes that scripture and was a living example of 98 years young. A TIME TO DIE On April 27, 2021 at approximately 11:10 a.m. God said well done my good and faithful servant. While sleeping in his bed at home while surrounded by two of his daughters, the Lord said take my hand and follow me to your new home where it is located on an exclusive estate behind a beautiful Pearly Gate where the streets are paved with gold and every day will be Sunday. So please be advised that I have moved to a much better place than any other where I have lived. There is peace, joy, happiness, no more crying, pain, pills, or doctors; only sweet serenity. A TIME TO MOURN He leaves to celebrate his legacy; his six children John Robinson Sr., David (Shirley) Robinson, Phillip (Mary) Robinson Sr., Phyllis (Andrew) Polk, Sandra (Dennis) Hughley, and Vanessa Robinson who all resides in Cleveland Ohio. 17 grandchildren; Davetta Robinson, John Robinson Jr., Marcia Dotson, Adrienne (Bobby) Jones, Rachelle Robinson., Phillip (Trishelle) Robinson Jr., Alki Robinson, Dylan Maxey, Kinsha Robinson, Katrina (Larry) Pierce, Alicia Robinson, Wendey (Robert) Armstrong, Kindu Hughley, Latricia Robinson, Al Jerau Robinson, Tristan Robinson, and Keah Robinson. All grandchildren currently reside in Cleveland, Ohio, with the exception of Alki who resides in Mount Prospect, Illinois; and Adrienne and Marcia who currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. Thirty-five great-grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren; one sister, Edna Lewis of Dayton, Ohio; three sister-in-law’s, Mary Carter, Libby Brown, and Emma Robinson of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of other relatives and friends.
