Lucius Lockett Obituary On the morning of June 19, 2020, Lucius passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home while Lucius was being visited and comforted by his family members. Lucius Lockett was born in Eutaw, Alabama on August 4, 1926. He was the sixth of eight children born to Bettie and Milton Lockett, Sr. both of whom preceded him in death. God blessed him to live a good life of ninety-three years. He grew up in Eutaw and after graduating from high school he continued his education at Tuskegee Institute where after 4 years he would graduate. After graduating from Tuskegee, he joined the United States Army and the Airforce Reserves where he was honorably discharged from service. After leaving the Air Force, he went back to Eutaw and was united in holy matrimony with his childhood sweetheart, Annie Tyree on June 16, 1951. Together they moved to Cleveland, Ohio where they would enjoy a union of love and devotion for fifty-eight years. While in Cleveland, Lucius was employed by the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft workers for over forty years until he retired. Lucius enjoyed line dancing and was a member of a line dancing troupe of fellow seniors who traveled northeast Ohio entertaining at nursing homes and other senior facilities. Lucius was a member of St. John AME Church for over sixty plus years. He was very active in his service to the Lord. He served with many organizations; Trustee Board, Male Chorus, Usher, and also cooked the grits for the men’s organization throughout his tenure at the church. He was an avid photographer and walked/jogged until his health began to decline in his later years. Lucius was also known for his outdoor culinary and grilling skills. His famous BBQ ribs were requested by many and acclaimed to be the best on the eastside of Cleveland. But his legacy includes many memorable traits; a loving God-fearing man, a very skillful brick mason, a floral and vegetable gardener, and his noteworthy witty sense of humor. Preceded in death by wife Annie; brothers, William, Milton, Herman Lockett; and sisters, Augusta Daily, Martha Anderson and Mary Ingram. He is survived by his sister Bettie (Landon) Walker of Boston, Massachusetts; beloved uncle to a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, cousins, Godson, Mark White, and many special friends who will miss him.
