Leonard Lumpkin Obituary Leonard Lumpkin affectionately known as "Skeet" was born on March 27, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Anna Pearl Dumas and Leonard Alfred Lumpkin. He was the oldest of four siblings. His father preceded him in death.As an infant, the family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. Leonard received his education in the Cleveland Public School system and graduated from East Technical High School in 1965. In that same year, he was united in marriage and this union was blessed with three children, Latrice, Leslie and Leonard Jr. He was later blessed with another daughter, Tamika. The bible states that "he that findeth a wife, findeth a good thing." Leonard met the love of his life and soulmate, Anita Johnson and they were united in holy matrimony. This union was blessed with a son, Anthony.Leonard accepted Christ and became a member of Beth-El African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church under the pastorage of Rev. Dr. Emmett D. Foster. He was a faithful member. Under the pastorage of Rev. Charles Tyler, Leonard became the Preacher Steward (chairman of the Steward Board) for about four years. He was also a member of The Beth-El Mighty Male Chorus, now known as Emmett D Foster Male Chorus. Some of his favorite songs included: "I Never Met A Man", "Run In the Name of Jesus" and "I Love To Praise Him." He had the lead on all three songs. Leonard was a faithful member until his health began to fail.Skeet had various jobs including: The Cleveland Press (newspaper); Addressograph; the Illuminating Company where he was a meter reader;Cleveland Clinic as a security guard; and RTA as a bus operator for over 29 years. In December 2008, he retired from RTA. For Leonard, there was no greater love than the love he had for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a loving and compassionate family man and it was evident in the time that he spent with them. Whenever needed, he always gave them support and guidance. In earlier years, Skeet was known and passionate about racing cars and riding motorcycles. He was a member of the "Freelancers" motorcycle club and one of the founding members of the "Rolls Royce Riders." He was a facilitator of RTA Men's Basketball League, an Executive Board Member of Local 268 and one of the founding members of the "Black Gems" which was a social organization.He was fun-loving, straight-forward, had a quiet leadership and was old-school wise. He was a pillar of honor and integrity and his word was his bond. Leonard loved to entertain and he had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel loved and welcomed in his home; however, he would not tell you but you knew that it was time to go once he started running the vacuum over and around you. Traveling played an intricate part of Leonard's life. One of his greatest joys was traveling with his wife on annual trips to various places. Leonard adored clothes. He was a meticulous, fashion conscious dresser and always showed up decked out. His charisma was one of his greatest assets.After a short illness since April 2011, Leonard's health began to fail; however, no matter when you talked with him, his spirits was always high. Surrounded by family, Leonard transcended this life and was rewarded his heavenly angel wings on September 6, 2011 at 7:00am. He will truly be missed by his loving family and friends.Loved ones to also precede him in death included: a favorite aunt, Dorothy McNair; Uncle "Bo," Uncle Sam and Uncle "Doe-Doe"; and one brother-in-law, Louis.His memory will always be cherished by: his devoted and loving wife, Anita; five caring children, Latrice, Leslie (Thomas III), Leonard Jr., Tamika (André) and Anthony; his loving mom, Anna (Grady) Barbour; thirteen precious grandchildren, Deonté, Thomas IV "Ricky", Louis, Landy, LaKeith, Ericka, LaTasha, Karesha, Lavelle, Brianna, Lavonna, Channell and Alyssa; two adoring great-grandchildren, Payton and Kalin; three siblings, Samuel "Buster", Denise (Thomas) Wilson and Larry (Dagmar); two brothers-in-law, Gary Johnson and Aaron (Sara) Johnson; a favorite uncle, Simpson McNair "Uncle Jr."; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many treasured friends.
