He was born on March 17, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Samuel E. Tidmore III and Ida Bell Finley Tidmore. As a youth, Larry attended Glenville Church of God, where he was nurtured in faith under the guidance of Reverend A.R. Cochran. Later, he became a devoted, lifelong member of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church, where he was spiritually led by Reverend Otis Moss, Jr. Throughout his life, Larry not only embraced his faith but also served as a steadfast spiritual guide for his family, consistently uplifting them with scripture and the joy of song. His commitment to Christian principles shaped both his personal life and lives of those around him, as he continually encouraged his loved ones to walk in faith. Raised on Cleveland’s eastside, Lawrence, known affectionately as “Larry,” was a proud graduate of John Adams High School, where he excelled in track, basketball, and football. His athleticism and competitive spirit laid the foundation for a life marked by hard work, dedication, and a passion for supporting others. Larry went on to further his education at Grambling State University and then Morgan State University, where he continued to pursue his love for learning and self-advancement. His professional journey began with New York Life Insurance Company, where he had a successful career before embracing his entrepreneurial spirit and founding his own business, Tidmore Financial. Larry’s professional success was matched by his personal warmth, as he was known for his generosity and his unwavering willingness to help those in need. Larry’s greatest pride, however, was his family. He and former spouse Veronica Johnson Tidmore, raised two beloved children, Lawrence Courtney (Joi) and Hollie Geneve. Larry’s legacy also lives on through his five cherished grandchildren: Arnaldo Lores, Anala Lourdes, Khari Michael, Noah Parker, and Savannah Grace, each of whom held a special place in his heart. As a grandfather, Larry was a constant presence at his grandchildren’s events, always cheering them on with immense pride and devotion. The third eldest of six siblings, Larry is survived by his brothers Samuel IV (Carol), Walter (Joyce), and Gregory, and his sisters Geraldine Rogers and Claudette Hughes (David). He was also a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews, including Tamarah, Nichelle, Mary Frances, Lauren, James, Ashley and Aiden. Larry’s close-knit family was at the core of his life, and he was often the life of every gathering—whether a casual cookout or a festive holiday celebration. He had an innate ability to make every person feel welcome and loved, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met. A passionate traveler, Larry embraced the world with open arms, visiting destinations such as Australia, Italy, Ghana, Portugal, Fiji, Bora Bora, and Ireland. He cherished these adventures, but above all, he valued the time spent with his loved ones, wherever they were. Known for his magnetic personality, Larry was a mentor and a friend to many. His charisma, wisdom, and generosity made him a beloved figure in both his personal and professional circles. Always quick with advice and an ear to listen, he helped guide countless individuals throughout his life. Larry will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he has left this world, his spirit and the lessons he imparted will continue to inspire and uplift those he touched.
