Joyce Lawrence Obituary Joyce Marie Mitchell Lawrence was born to the late Roosevelt and Essie Mae Mitchell on April 25, 1942 at Lakeside Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. Joyce attended Cleveland Public Schools; Miles Standish Elementary, Empire Junior High and Glenville High School, “Class of 1960”“Tarblooders”.Joyce was united in holy matrimony to Willie Lawrence on July 18, 1965. To this union two sons were born, Johnnie D. Lawrence and Darryl E. Lawrence. Joyce accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She walked the walk of a Christian in many different ways by supporting multiple charities, nurturing impoverished students by providing shelter, transportation, meals and clothing. Joyce had a passion for cooking (her collard greens were delectable, according to her, youngest son, Darryl). She enjoyed having cookouts, where she served not only her family and friends but she also included her neighbors as well. Her commission for her family, friends and loves ones exceeded far beyond the average person. She enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays. She helped those she loved during difficult times even when she was experiencing excruciating pain throughout her body. Joyce loved living life, she enjoyed family game night; by playing Pokeno (she would even “cheat” periodically by stealing the children pennies –teaching them life lessons), spades and backgammon. Joyce loved to travel, visiting family. Joyce worked at the East Cleveland City School District for thirty years as a Unit Secretary. Prior to working for the school district Joyce worked at the US Postal Service, Yellow Cab and Bonnie Speed. Joyce was proceeded in death by her parents Roosevelt & Essie Mae Mitchell , husband, Willie Lawrence , brothers, Roosevelt Mitchell Jr. and William “Moe" Mitchell, and sister, Nadine Mitchell. Joyce leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, sons, Johnnie D. Lawrence & Darryl E.
