James Strong, Jr. Obituary THE GRAVESIDE SERVICE WILL BE LIVESTREAMED James E. Strong Jr. was born on August 31, 1941 in Gadsden, Alabama to James E. Strong Sr. and Lillian Williams. His brother, Jimmie Dan Strong (deceased). He and his brother Jimmie Dan was sent to Cleveland, Ohio at 10 and 11 years old to be with their father. As a young teenager, he was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. James attended Addison Junior High School and graduated from East High School. He became a member of Gloria’s family at the age of sixteen years old and remained a member until his death. Immediately after graduating from high school he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for three years and was in the Army Reserve for another three years. He was honorably discharged in October of 1963. In May of 1964 he married his High School “Sweetheart” Gloria J. Burroughs (Glo Jean) and to this union three daughters were born: Kwana Patrice, Kara Vanee and after 11 years we joyfully welcomed Katina Devista. James retired from Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg, Ohio after working there for 34 years. He moved to Detroit, Michigan for a short period of time and then he decided to retire to a warmer climate in Dothan, Alabama nineteen years ago. He was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and was a self-taught carpenter. He made cabinets, outdoor decks and Kwanzaa candle holders. He also traveled to different places of interest in the USA. You could always find him fishing, camping, boating or customizing his vans for travel. He leaves behind…. Wife (former) Gloria Strong (Cleveland, Ohio); daughters: Kwana Strong (Cleveland, Ohio), Kara Strong (Janesville, Wisconsin) and Katina Davis (Cottrell Davis Jr.) (Cleveland, Ohio). Four grandsons: Chinwindo Strong, Sincere (Cottrell III) Davis, Caleb Davis, and Chance Davis. Sisters Leola Nelson (Modesto, California) and Kathy Evans (Dothan, Alabama). Marital family: four brothers-in-law: Louis, Clayton, Landus and Timothy; two sisters-in-law, Joyce and Selena; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Following a hospital stay at Southeast Hospital in Dothan, Alabama, he was medically air flighted to Cleveland, Ohio and 36 hours later on September 18, 2023 his journey of this life ended and his eyes closed.
