Inez E. (Evans) Cameron

Inez Cameron Obituary Inez E. Cameron was born to the late Charles and Martha Evans on November 29, 1930 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the third of nine children. Inez graduated from Parker High School and earned her nursing degree from Alabama State. She worked many years in the maternity ward as a nurse and also owned her own restaurant. Inez moved to Cleveland and reconnected with Jimmie Cameron. They were married on August 14, 1954. They had two children, Fred and Greg Cameron. They also opened their home to several foster children throughout the years. Inez was a member of Glenville Presbyterian Church and enjoyed volunteering as a substitute teacher, lunch lady and field trip chaperone at St. Henry’s School. She was involved in politics and spent many hours working on many campaigns throughout the years. She held many fundraisers in her home. After she had children, she worked as a private duty nurse. One of her clients introduced her to the world of real estate. She purchased and managed multiple properties throughout the city. She attended many seminars and met with different contractors and real estate agents to increase her knowledge. She remained close to Henry Stoudemire until his death. She considered herself a real estate expert and mentored many people including her children. Inez enjoyed entertaining and frequently hosted parties at her home for the East 178th Street Club that she belonged to with Jimmie. She remained very close to those friends throughout her lifetime. Inez was an animal lover. She enjoyed bird watching and shared her life with many dogs. Her dog Cocoa kept her moving for the last 10 years. Inez was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Jimmie Cameron; her sisters Terena Mary Evans Penn, Eloise Evans Allen and Susie Evans Jones and brothers Charles Evans and Samuel Evans. Inez is survived by her sons Fred Cameron and Greg Cameron (Andrea); grandchildren Kennedy Cameron, Candace Cameron, Douglas Jackson, Kassidy Cameron and Kayla Cameron; sisters Martha Evans Lewis and Julia Evans Mondy; brother Lucious Evans; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. She had a special place in her heart for her nieces Patricia Dixon and Regina Turner and “sons” Ernie Douglas and Jeff Stewart. Inez gained her wings on November 30, 2020 at the age of 90. She will be missed dearly. Her favorite saying was “everybody is pimping everybody” so in lieu of flowers please consider donating in her name to Shooting Without Bullets. Shooting Without Bullets incubates young artist activists and eliminates systemic barriers in art and society for Black and Brown youth, all while spreading bold messages of social justice and racial equity across Northeast Ohio and beyond.
