Ms. Henrietta Bernard Pennyman

Henrietta Bernard Sandidge Pennyman, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2016 at the glorious age of 99, in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Henrietta Bernard Sandidge Pennyman, was the second child, of the late John Robert Sandidge and Fredricka Louise Amanda Bernard Sandidge (deceased). She was born March 5, 1917. She was raised on Keys Avenue, and Colonial Court in Cleveland, Ohio, along with her sister Roberta Sandidge Dimmy (deceased), and brothers John Robert Sandidge, and Albert Lincoln Sandidge. Henrietta was baptized at St. John A.M.E. Church on March 5, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Cleveland Public Schools, Observation Elementary School, Fairmont Junior High School, and graduated from “Old” Central High School in 1936. Henrietta led an active life. In her younger years, she was employed at Helen’s Milner’s Hat Shop, and continued working at Westinghouse, Miles Standish Elementary School, and Mt. Sinai Hospital after she was married on August 28, 1942 to Everett Carl Pennyman (deceased). Henrietta gave birth to six children; Everett Carl Pennyman Jr., Iris Anne Pennyman Odom, John Oran Pennyman, Roger Louis Pennyman, Paul Bernard Pennyman, and Alan Winston Pennyman. Henrietta was the grandmother of Antoine L. Odom, Andre R. Odom and Roy J. Odom Jr. , Brandon C. Pennyman, Noelle V. Pennyman, Scott B. Pennyman, Marlon J. Pennyman, Kamaria J. Pennyman Smith, Tahirah J. Pennyman, and Ciboney Y. Pennyman. She was also grandmother to Raanell L. Miller, Angela M. Allen, Gary H. Washington, Aubray Bond, Kendall B. Franklin, and Emery C. Buckner. She was the great grandmother of Lauren OdomVicente, and Antoine Odom Jr. (A.J.), Parys N. Pennyman, Amaya G. Pennyman, Joshua A. Smith, Caleb A. Smith , Layla J. Smith , Jordan E.Wade, Blake C. Pennyman-Allen and also Christian Bond. She was great, great grandmother to Cyrus Odom. She was mother-in-law to Vinette D. Pennyman, Sandra J. Pennyman, Yasmin P. Pennyman and Mary M. Pennyman. Henrietta was a active and dedicated member of St. John A.M.E. Methodist Church in Cleveland, Ohio she served as one of the eldest members of St. John and was once appointed as the Recording Secretary on The Winn-Manuel Missionary Society Board. In later years, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia to reside with her daughter. After enjoying many years with family in Stone Mountain, Georgia, she peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. She will be remembered as an avid traveler with some of her most memorable visits to Atlanta, California, New York City, Louisiana, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands. She was very creative and her hobbies were sewing, reading and traveling.
