Harold Binder Obituary Harold Binder was born on June 30, 1939, to William and Julia Mae (Briggs) Binder in Montgomery, Alabama, being the middle child of two siblings, the oldest William Binder, Jr. (deceased) and younger sister, Jeanette (Binder) Griggs. Harold lived a full life of character, discipline, and wisdom. He was a Christian man, and for many that knew him, they saw him as a best friend, resourceful father, and loving husband to Mary Elizabeth Binder for 58 years. Determined to produce a viable future from modest means, Harold joined the United States Marine Corps at the early age of 17. As a U.S. Marine Veteran, he served in locations around the world such as Beirut, Lebanon, and other locations in the Mediterranean. Harold progressed in his service to the rank of Lance Corporal and received an Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corps in 1962; he then moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Harold gained employment at the Cleveland Trust Company, and while there, met his future wife and life-long covenant-mate, Mary Williams who also worked at Cleveland Trust. With his life-long covenant mate by his side, Harold dedicated himself to obtaining his high school diploma and received graduate certification from John Hay High School and Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. During Harold’s extended employment tenure at the bank (later Ameritrust, Society Bank then KeyBank) he became a gifted carpenter, skilled craftsman, and earned a professional certification as an IBM machine repair technician, eventually retiring from KeyBank after 39 years of service. Harold enjoyed spending time with family and the friendships that he and Mary developed over decades. As a young family man, he enjoyed traveling and fishing with family. He also enjoyed playing cards and community baseball with friends. Later in life, he pleasured in “piddling around” fixing and repairing things around the house and helping others. He also enjoyed working in the garden, backyard cookouts, golfing and holiday get togethers. As a senior he was committed to group exercise with Mary and friends at Warrensville Heights, YMCA. He also found joy in traveling across the country by train. Harold showed great appreciation and love for God’s word and attended early Sunday services at Providence Baptist Church, Cleveland, Ohio. Harold and Mary regularly attended Seniors’ Ministry programs and events. He had a strong personality and unique sense of humor that people found amusing. By God’s grace, Harold persevered through many health challenges. He went home to be with the Lord at 85 years old on February 15, 2025, in his home with his family and covenant-mate by his side in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Harold was preceded in death by his brother, William Binder, Jr.; sister, Inell Asberry; and grandchild, Jarrad Banks. Harold leaves to cherish his memory, his siblings: Jeanette Griggs, California; Gwendolyn Williams (Willie, Jr.), Georgia; and Aaron Moore (Delois) Alabama. He will also be lovingly remembered by those whom he cared so sincerely - his three children: Harold Barte’ Binder (Karlotta); Stephanie Binder; and Christopher Binder (Jessica). He had several grandchildren: Alexander Binder (Marissa), MaKenna Binder, Kenadi Binder, Kylah Binder, and Meaghan Binder, along with a great-grandson, Dominic Gonzalez.
