Gertrude Wilson Obituary Gertrude Ella Wilson was born May 21, 1940 to Reverend Raymond Henry Wilson and Xernna Mae Wilson, the youngest of two children, Raymond Henry Wilson, Jr, her brother, deceased. Gertrude, a product of the Cleveland Public School System, graduated from John Adams High School in 1958. Gertrude continued her education, receiving her Bachelor's Degree at Baldwin Wallace College; and in 1981 completed her Masters of Music Degree at Cleveland State University. As a child, Gertrude knew she loved the Lord and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church. Gertrude loved to travel. She traveled all over the United States, including Europe, the Caribbean Islands and Puerto Rico. Gertrude was a beautiful classical singer. She graced many with her beautiful mezzo-soprano voice as part of Antioch Baptist Church’s Sanctuary Choir, the Heritage Chorale and a member of the Greater Cleveland Pan-Hellenic Choir from 1988 through 2019. Gertrude sang wherever her talent opened the doors to music stages in theaters, churches, and Severance Hall performances. Gertrude had a strong love for children. She was a music teacher for the Cleveland Public School System where she brought joy to all who knew her; retiring after 30 years of service. Gertrude put her enterprising skills to test and was not afraid to work; Avon, Amway, Boy Scouts of America, Severance Hall and Care Circle LLC, and the Ohio Department of Insurance Certified in Variable Life and Annuities were some of her endeavors. Gertrude was a Life member and Silver Star of Alpha Omega Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., in Cleveland, Ohio; initiated June 13, 1975. She provided 48 years of excellent and gracious service. Gertrude was a great friend, a great mentor and an extremely sharing and caring person. She told so many wonderful stories that would leave anyone who listened to her feeling great in their spirit and hopeful. “Auntie Gert” was a fantastic Aunt to many. Gertrude leaves to cherish her memories her beloved sister-in-law, Gloria Wilson; her nieces, Vernita Reneé Rivers (George), Brenda Tyrbouslu, Phyllis Wilson, Karen Blue-Young (William), Annette Blue-Hopson (David), Rhonda Pitts, Stacy Mays and Gloria Mays; nephew, Wayne Wilson, Sr.; best friend, Constance Speed; a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
