Fred (Sonny) Bowden, Jr. Obituary Fred D. Bowden Jr. was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Fred Douglas Bowden Sr. and Eddie Mae Bowden, both of whom have since passed away. Fred was the second of five children; Delores(sister), Stanley(brother), and Beverly(sister), who all proceeded in death. He received his education in the Cleveland public school system, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors and a strong work ethic. Fred was known to many as Sonny B., or Bop. Fred’s professional journey began at the Brown Derby. His ambition and determination eventually led him to Ford Motor Company, a pivotal move that would shape his career so he could provide for his family. After 30 years of devoted service, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of commitment to excellence and a lifetime of memories of his career in Cleveland. Fred was a true sports enthusiast, with a passion for baseball that was unrivaled. His days were often spent on the diamond. Baseball was just the tip of the iceberg; Fred had a love for playing tennis with friends on countless weekends. Playing cards with his sons, was a way of keeping them close at heart. There was another arena where Fred truly shined: Dominated every pool game that seemed almost effortless. However, his daughter was a close competitor. Beyond sports, Fred found joy in the rhythms of music. He was particularly fond of gospel, jazz, and doo-wop, genres that played throughout his home. Whether he was hitting a home run, breaking a tough game of pool, or enjoying a pleasant tune, Fred embraced life with a vibrant spirit, making every moment count. However, he stood as a pillar of strength and authority, a man who commanded both respect and a level of fear. Known for his unwavering principles and stern demeanor, he was often viewed as a father figure of the community. His presence instilled a sense of security yet his formidable reputation made many think twice before crossing him. He was fair but firm, believing in discipline and the value of hard work. On the 23rd day of November 1964, he and Ollie Mae exchanged vows; beginning a journey together that would last a lifetime. Their union was blessed with the arrival of four children. Fred Douglas Bowden the Third, Anton Cordell Bowden, La Sheer Danielle Bowden, and Jermaine Bowden. As a devoted family man, he cherished every moment of being a supportive protector of his family and dedicated to childhood friendships, that all lasted a lifetime. The memories of those who preceded him in death, are a reminder of the enduring bonds of family and the legacies we carry forward. Despite the sadness, he embraced life with a spirit of gratitude, celebrating the love he shared with Ollie Mae and their children, ensuring their memories would live on in the hearts of those he touched. Fred passed away on October 3rd 2024 he leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Ollie Mae Bowden of sixty-one years.
