Eleanor Curtis (Laster) Lett

Eleanor Lett Obituary Eleanor Curtis Laster was born on June 2, 1931 to the union of Edward and Vinia Laster (Deceased) in Birmingham, Alabama. The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio when she was a young child. She accepted Christ and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church by the late Rev. Perkins at an early age. She later joined the Mt. Gillion Baptist Church under the late Rev. W.L. Engram where she met many lifelong friends and served the balance of her life. She served in many different ministries including the original Nurses Guild, Missionary, Usher Board, Sunday School, and Choir. President of the Deaconess Board was the role she most enjoyed in her later years. She took pride in making sure the Deaconess executed their role in communion flawlessly. She looked forward to attending the annual National Baptist Convention along with her sisters and other members of Mt. Gillion, where she also served on the Deaconess Board. Always desiring to better understand the Word, she studied at Maranatha Bible College and other institutions for many years. She regularly visited the sick and shut-in until she could no longer drive. Continuing to have the urge to serve, she would get a ride from loved ones to work the weekly food bank. She married James Sherman Poore, Sr. (Deceased) in 1960. From that union they had Sherri Lynne Poore (Deceased) and James Sherman Poore, II (Pamela). Sherman passed shortly after the birth of James. In 1967, she married Joshua Lett (Deceased). His daughter, Kelly Montgomery (Wardell) also became part of the family. This union produced Anthony Curtis Lett (Dedee). She loved to spend time with her 5 grandchildren who were the center of her universe: James "Trey", Bailee and Kyndal Poore in Fishers, IN and Maya and Chloe Lett in Silver Spring, MD. Eleanor graduated from John Hay High School in 1951 and began working for the City of Cleveland Division of Air Pollution Control a couple of days later. She retired from that job as the Chief Clerk in 1989. She loved discussing, watching and participating in all sports. Her favorite was bowling. She bowled in as many as 3 leagues a week until she was physically unable. She taught all her kids and anybody else in the bowling alley who would listen, how to bowl. She leaves behind her two best friends, sisters Dinah Young and Sue Morgan (Daniel). Also, sister in-laws: Jean Duke (Wilfred) Pensacola, FL, Ida Guice (Henry) Apple Springs, TX, Myrtle Martin, North Aurora, IL, and Patricia Laster. A host of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly who affectionately called her "Auntie" are also left behind.
