Doris Gillon

Doris Gillon Obituary Doris Gillon (McGraw) was born on May 9, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late John and Pearl McGraw. To their union four children were born with Doris being the youngest. One brother and two sisters preceded her in death. Doris attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1945. She professed Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh Baptist Church in 1942. She was an active member serving as a Sunday School Teacher and Financial Secretary. She participated as a member of the Missionary Society, the Dorcas Circle, the Lydia Circle, Noon Day Prayer Band, December Fellowship, and the outreach to the City Mission. She was also an Usher and Trustee where she served until her decline in health prevented her from actively serving. Doris also enjoyed visiting and serving those who were sick and/or shut in. In June 1947, Doris was united in Holy Matrimony to Rudolph Gillon. One child, Faith was born to this union. Doris was an avid bowler, participating on many bowling leagues spanning more than 40 years. Doris also had a passion for sewing, making outfits for herself and pajamas for her family. She also enjoyed listening to Christian ministries on the radio.Doris was part of a pilot program in 1965 developed to train minority women in secretarial skills. She loved it and it led to her career at Cuyahoga Community College where she worked in the program Project Talent Search for over 20 years until retiring in the Fall of 1999. During her years at the college, she was always enrolled in some type of class. Education was very important to her and even more important was that the youth in the family take advantage of educational opportunities. This was evident through her role of teacher's aid, PTA leader, lunch room monitor, classroom story reader, Ohio University Mom's club officer, and school transporter. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Faith F. (Vincent) Morehouse, two grandsons, Shaquille Morehouse and Javon Morehouse, one great granddaughter, Marley Morehouse, two nieces, Eunice Roberts and Flossie George, and many great nieces, nephews, cousins, her Shiloh Family, and friends.
