Dorcas Harris Obituary Dorcas M. Harris was born April 7, 1932, in Birmingham AL, to the late Floyd E. Perry Sr. and Fannie Bell (Hawkins) Perry. God came for his Angel, took her home to be with the Lord peacefully with her family around her on February 2, 2025. Dorcas was the oldest daughter of her siblings, Floyd E. Perry Jr., Marion Huff, Golden Harris and Doris Sawyer, all of whom preceded her in death. William Carter (Jean) and Fay Perry are left to remember their sister fondly. Dorcas M. Harris graduated from Central High School and furthered her education by attending Beauty school where she would always willingly offer her services to anyone in need. She retired from Hough Bakery in 1992 and she worked in many capacities and utilized her outstanding cake decorating skills at work, at home and at church. Dorcas M. Harris married the love of her life, Leonard W. Harris, on December 20, 1952, and they celebrated 70 years of marriage prior to his death in 2022. From this union, they had four children that they loved and dedicated their lives to, Darrell, Eric, Chiron and Marchaunt. Dorcas was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt but most of all a devoted woman of God who loved and served the Lord. She never hesitated to help those in need and was always ready to serve when called upon. Those that knew her well called her “Dot” and knew her as a woman of fashion, who took pride in being her husband’s model as he adorned her with countless beautiful tailored one-of-a-kind outfits created just for her. Dorcas M. Harris WAS DEVOTED TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST and loved the Lord with all her heart. She attended Williams Temple Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of her father, Pastor Floyd E. Perry Sr. where she served and sang in the choir. Additionally, she was part of a group known as “The Perry Sisters” which included Marian, Golden and Fay. Their favorite song was “I’m Gonna Walk out in Jesus’ name.” She was baptized by her brother, Bishop Floyd E. Perry Jr. of East 105th Street Church of God in Christ (later known as The Cathedral Church of God in Christ). Her most notable service was her tireless efforts in the Culinary Ministry, where she enjoyed feeding God’s children, working many long hours with her Sister in Christ Jonelle Perry. Dorcas M. Harris leaves behind to treasure her memory, her children, Darrell Harris (Marilyn), Eric Harris, Chiron Harris and Marchaunt Harris. Four grandchildren who she loved unconditionally, Sinatra, Eric Adam, Dana, and Marissa. She has five great grandchildren, Sinatra Jr., Corrine, Sana, Ayden and Cire. Dorcas has one great grandson that proceeded her in death, Elijah Jovan. She also has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends and her Church family who love her dearly. Mother Harris was in Cleveland Clinic Hospital when she transitioned from this life to her Eternal home with her devoted daughter Chiron by her side.
