Deacon Nathaniel Washington, Sr. Obituary Nathaniel Washington Sr. was born March 25, 1930 in Bay Minette, Alabama to the late George Sr. and Frances Washington. He was one of eleven brothers and sisters. He departed this life on September 22, 2020 at Crawford Manor Nursing Home. Nathaniel was preceded in death by his loving wife Jonnie Mae Washington of 58 years; daughter Ann Holt; brothers and sisters: Fred Washington, George Washington Jr., Willie Washington, Mylie Washington, Robert Washington, Roosevelt Washington, Laverne Taylor, and Annie Stephens. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted sister Lille Day of Bay Minette, Alabama, one brother Andrew Washington (Emma), three sisters-in-law, Augustine Washington, Betty Washington, and Kellie Washington of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He lives his sons Nathaniel Washington Jr. (Alicia), Samuel Washington (Lillie), Agnes (Susie) Washington. Grandchildren Yvonne Baker, Claudette Baker, Jeremiah Washington. Great-grandchildren Jamaal Baker, Terrance Baker, Justin Stattiewhite, Kristopher Stovall (Brittany), Kritina Stovall, and great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Nathaniel worked for the Lyndhurst Board of Education, Brush High School, and Lowden Elementary until he retired in the 90’s. He loved working at both schools with the children, principals, and teachers. They loved him and they showed it. Nathaniel was a deacon at the Peace Missionary Baptist Church for sixty years where he served and retired as a deacon December 18, 2016. He also served as a treasurer of the church for most of the sixty years. He worked around the church and help other people by cutting their grass and other little things (odd jobs) when asked. Nathaniel was very active in the choir and different ministries until he couldn’t handle it anymore. Our dad and mom really love their children and everyone that was round. We want to thank and appreciate the staff and administration of Crawford Manor for taking care of our dad and showing us that they care: and also Harmony Hospice. We appreciate and thank them for their care and being there when our dad passed.
