Ms. Darlene D. Douglas

Darlene Douglas was the sixth child born to Cornelius and Arthel Douglas in Cleveland, Ohio on July 24, 1957. She was also a loving mother to Mariah Douglas. She departed this life on August 3, 2016. Growing up in Cleveland, Darlene participated in various clubs in the Shaker Heights school system, including Girl Scouts and as a dancer with the Raiderettes. After graduating from Shaker Heights High School, she continued her education at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where she graduated with a B.S. in Home Economics in 1981. For the next three decades, Darlene enjoyed her work at Cleveland area hospitals, including St. Luke’s, where she began her career as a medical secretary in the cardiac department, MetroHealth Medical Center, where she worked as a food supervisor, the Cleveland Clinic, and University Hospitals, where she served as a medical secretary in the departments of Neurosurgery, Pulmonology, Pathology/ Autopsy for over 20 years. Throughout her life, Darlene was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Cecilia’s Church. She taught in the religious education program and was involved in many community service organizations throughout the church. She later joined the Church of St. Dominic continuing teaching religious education, joining a woman’s spirituality group, and was a dedicated volunteer within the community at Warrensville Developmental Center. Darlene enjoyed gardening, her numerous plants and beautiful yard demonstrated her green thumb. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Cavaliers and the Browns. But Darlene’s favorite way to spend her time was with her beloved daughter, Mariah, especially attending her dance performances. Darlene’s parents Arthel and Cornelius Douglas Sr., preceded her in death along with Dallas Douglas (brother) and Florence Jean (sister). She leaves to mourn her passing her beloved daughter Mariah Douglas; siblings: Cornelius Douglas Jr., Valerie Howard, Geraldine Pardon; 12 nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. Darlene’s life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, August 10, at 10:30a, at the Church of St. Dominic, 19000 Van Aken Blvd., Shaker Hts. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Darlene’s Memorial Fund, c/o Church of St. Dominic.
