Cora Lee Richardson

Cora Richardson Obituary Cora Lee (Riley) Richardson was born January 20, 1931 in Wayne County, Mississippi. She was the only daughter born to the late Albert and Cora (Pou) Riley. Cora attended school in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and later in Racine, Wisconsin. In 1954, she moved to Cleveland with her children. She later met and married Louis E. Richardson on December 6, 1969. Cora accepted Christ as a child and later rededicated her life to Christ and was re-baptized in 1980 by Pastor Charlie Toles with assistance from her husband Louis. Cora worked for the Cuyahoga County Hospital System for 30 years, retiring in 1986 from what is now called the MetroHealth System. During her years of work, she acted as Union Steward for Nursing Assistants and Ward Clerks. In the interim, she has been a caretaker for various Cleveland families, including her husband, Louis who passed away in 1998. When her grandson, Jermaine was a student at Aviation High School, Cora was Secretary of the School Community Council and Coordinator of the Parents Calling Network for three years. She received a commendation from the Cleveland City Council for her work. During her years at Bible Baptist Church, Cora served as a Church Clerk, a member of the adult choir, vacation bible school and served on the Kitchen Committee. Cora was also a Founding Member of Grace Fundamental Baptist Church, and she encouraged her close family to also become charter members. She continued her service on the Finance Committee, the adult choir, and of course the Kitchen Committee. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also a loyal aunt, cousin, friend and caregiver. Her favorite pastime was cooking for family, friends and others. Cora went home to be with the Lord on Good Friday April 7, 2023. She is preceding in death by her 2 daughters, Carlin Polk and Sandra Polk. She was the last surviving sibling of twelve brothers and sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing: 2 sons, Robert Polk of Milwaukee, WI, James (Janet) Polk of Cleveland Heights; 3 daughters, Juanita Copeland of Charlotte, NC, Veronica Sayles of Maple Heights and Erma Sayles of Cleveland, Ohio; 8 grandchildren, Stacy Sayles, Jermaine Polk, Angela Sayles, Carina Sayles, Devin Whitmore, Diarra Polk, Aaron Sayles and Jamal Polk; 13 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
