Christine (Morrow) Hayes

Christine Hayes Obituary Christine Hayes was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio to the union of the late Alphonso and Izora (Stokes) Morrow, Sr. Christine was the fifth of seven siblings born of this marriage. She attended Cleveland Public Schools and was baptized at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, but later became a dedicated member of Unity Center Church for a period of time later in life. In 1949, Christine married her childhood sweetheart, Elmer Hayes Jr. Unto this union, three children were born, Gregory, Darryl and Carla Hayes. Early in marriage, Christine was a homemaker, but later was employed by the United States Postal Service from where she retired as a registry clerk after 25 years of service. After retirement, she was not idle as she generously and lovingly provided daycare for three of her grandchildren, Armand, Austin and Allison. Many called her Christine, and some called her Chris, but she was affectionately called “Kitten” and “Aunt Teen” by family and friends. Christine enjoyed hosting and entertaining family and friends and was a wonderful cook. Working in her yard brought her joy, and she was meticulous about her landscape. She also enjoyed traveling with family going on a few cruises and to Hawaii. They enjoyed Hawaii so much they went twice. After her husband passed away, Christine lived with her daughter, Carla and her family for about 10 years. She later lived at Forest Hills Place and then Windsor Heights Assisted Living where she passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 24, 2023. Christine was preceded in death by her sister Bernice Morrow, brothers Alphonso Morrow, Jr., twins, Leroy and Elroy Morrow and Bruce Morrow, grandson, Khalid Hayes and great granddaughter, Kameron Hayes. Christine leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory her children, Gregory Hayes Bey, Sr. (Ann Rudolph), Darryl Hayes (Iris Joy), Carla Tillman (William); grandchildren Munira Hayes, Malika Hayes, Gregory Hayes Bey, Jr., Brandon Hart, Armand Hayes, Austin Hayes and Allison Tillman; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, sister Marion Grier and brother and sister-in-law Allan Hayes (Gloria), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
