Chester H. Levert

Chester Levert Obituary Chester Hiawatha Levert was born on June 23, 1933 to Julius, Chester Levert and Rose B. Collins in Montgomery, Alabama. He was the oldest of nine siblings. The Taylor Levert family moved from Akron, Alabama to Cleveland, Ohio in 1935, residing in an interracial neighborhood in the inter city. He attended Rutherford B. Hayes and Mayflower Elementary schools. Chester was a fun, loving person, he loved music, played the harmonica and guitar, which his uncle Lindsey taught him. We thought he could also do everything, he had even made a skateboard. Chester and his late brother Charles delivered newspapers for the Cleveland news, just one of the many jobs and fun things he did growing up . He attended the Zion Hill Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ and he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and obtained an Eagle Scout merit badge. Chester graduated from Thomas Edison high school on June 16, 1953 and after high school he was drafted in the US Army and served for two years. Upon returning home, he continued his education, obtaining a degree in electronic industrial, electronic communication and electronic engineering. He met and married Norene Turnbow in July 1963 and from this union two children were born, a daughter Monica and son Carleton. Years later he met Beverly Oliver. They became a blended family with Karen, Kenneth and Kimberly. His favorite restaurant was Bob Evans. He has probably attended every location in Cleveland and surrounding areas. He continued his Christian walk as a member of new Bethel Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, and lastly attending Calvary Congregational Church. Chester was employed at the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, part time, and was full-time at the Ohio Youth Commission for several years before retiring from the Cuyahoga County engineering department. Chesters health began to fail after he had fractured his hip a few years ago. A big thank you goes to Dominique for making sure he was well taken care of daily. Chester was proceeded in death by his parents, Julius Chester and Rose Levert, soulmate Beverly Oliver, daughter, Monica Levert – Stewart brothers, Alfred and Charles Levert, and Sister Evangelist Mina Benn. He leaves to mourn his passing sons Carleton and Kenneth, daughters Karen and Kimberly (Jeffery) brothers; Raymond Levert , Julius Levert (Laura) Richard Levert (Barbra), Sisters Queen Elizabeth Rodgers and Mary Ann Carter.
